My wife and I are 62 and not late night folks. This was our 5th cruise and we booked it at the last minute for her birthday gift. The ECSTACY was recently refurbished and they did a great job. Everything looked new and was spotless. Our stateroom was an oceanview towards the bow and was comfortable. Our cabin steward always greeted us with a smile on his face and was always there when we needed something. The entire crew were great, as usual. We like Carnival because of all the activities going on during the day. We've been on Royal Caribbean and the only daytime activities are at the main pool and limited in variety. We decided to stay on the ship at each port and found to our delight that 85% of the passengers went on excursions, which left the whole ship uncrowded and fun. One of the excursion in Progresso was to go to an upscale country club for a buffet lunch, open bar and access to their swimming pool. The cost was $75 per person and the excursion was for 4 1/2 hours. We were already on the most upscale country club with buffet lunch and pool. We figured we could buy our own drinks @ $5.25 and never spend $150 worth. Since we booked late we got the last seating in the dining room. We didn't want food that late so we never went there. We asked to be seated earlier but they couldn't accommodate us, so we ate in the panorama buffet restaurant for each meal. It was great. Great food [prime rib, pork roast] for dinner, a different country theme at lunch as well as American and excellent breakfasts. We met some people who booked in February and requested early seating, but were given late seating and couldn't change. The 24 hour pizza station and deli sandwich bar were delicious and convenient. We had a great time until the weather front hit us on friday with temps in the 50's, 30 knot headwinds and 15 foot waves. My wife forgot her seasick patches, so she was only able to get the pills that are free on board. They do not sell patches. She was sick as a dog from 11 am to 6 pm when we finally got past the cold front. This ship's warp speed is 13 knots, so you're not going to out run much. I was surprised that the crew were not trained about seasickness. I stopped 3 ship's crew and asked the for advice and they shrugged and said they didn't know how to deal with it because they don't get seasick. We can't wait to cruise again. On a scale of 1-10 this cruise was an 8 and would have hit 10 if the weather was better.
