Cruise Review Carnival Destiny 11/12/06-11/19/06

This cruise there were 2 of us: I am a single female who turned 35 on the cruise and my single 62 year old mother. I have been on 5 other cruises and Mom has been on 3 others. On Saturday (11/11/06) we flew from DFW to Orlando to San Juan. We arrived in San Juan at about 5:00 pm local time (including a 2-hour loss of time). We stayed at the Hampton Inns and Suites near the airport. The hotel was very nice comfy beds, free internet access, an outdoor pool and hot tub near the hotel's pool grill. We were tired from traveling, so we just had a burger and a hot dog at the grill for dinner. We went for a swim in the hotel's pool and hot tub then went to bed. The next morning, the free breakfast buffet consisted of biscuits, sausage patties, egg rounds (sort of like the eggs on fast food breakfast sandwiches), pastries and muffins, flavored yogurt, cereal and milk, hot tea and coffee. We ate breakfast then walked to the drugstore across the street to see if we could find some Caffeine Free Diet Coke for Mom. The drugstore had some basics, and some Coke, but not Caffeine Free Diet Coke. We went back to the hotel and sat around the pool for a while then I logged onto the internet. At 11:30 we checked out and found a taxi to take us to Pueblo (the local grocery store) for the Caffeine Free Diet Coke and then to the cruise terminal. The cost of the taxi from the Hampton Inn to the cruise terminal would be $25 plus $10 to stop at the grocery store and wait for me to return.

We arrived at the cruise terminal with newly purchased Caffeine Free Diet Coke at 12:10. We went through all the lines and paperwork and in a little under one hour we were ready for security to open. One of the pieces of paper instructed that the staterooms would not be available until 2:30 so only to go to the public rooms until later. During the embarkation paperwork we were given a laminated card that read zone 11. We were informed that security would open at 1:00, and we had to proceed through security by zones. We met a couple who did not have a zone card, and they were told it didn't matter and to just go through security when they were ready. While waiting, we had a shot of some passion fruit liqueur that was very sweet, but just OK. Finally, at 1:00 security opened and by 1:15 they had called zone 11. We breezed through security and boarded the ship!
