DH and I were on our 3rd cruise and we traveled with friends that were first time cruisers, ages ranged from 48 to 55. We drove to Louisiana to meet up with our friends and then on to Galveston to stay 2 nights before our cruise. I had booked motel online before going and was having second thoughts by the time we got there, We stayed at the America's Best Inn's and Suites. It wasn't fancy but we had a Jacuzzi room and free parking for the week for 200.00 for two nights, so I was quite pleased.I would stay there again. Embarkation went very smoothly, much better than I remembered from our last cruise. It took about an hour and we were on board having lunch, by the time we finished with our lunch it was time to check out our rooms. Our room Steward was Hondo and I didn't get the chance til meet him until later that night after dinner. This concerned me a little as every other cruise the steward was there to introduce himself right away, but I must say he did a wonderful job and we never wanted for anything. Dinner that night, was a little rough, I had never been seasick before, nor had I sailed out of the gulf and I was not prepared for this. I ended up turning in early the first night and the next morning I went to the purser's desk and they gave me a "magic" pill. LOL It did the trick and never had anymore problems, but I had met up with fellow cruise critic friends who were there to help had that not worked. I forgot to mention that our waiter was RolDan and his assistant was Jorge, and let's just say I fell absolutely in love with them. RolDan was such a sweetheart, I have never had such a good waiter on the other ships, and I really never thought I could get better than on our first cruise. Jorge was very shy, we later found out he only been on the ship a week longer than us and was homesick, such a sweet young man.Had they not made the announcement that we couldn't bring them home with us, I sure would have tried . LOL My understanding is that RolDan will be going to the Miracle, so now I have to check into that one for the next cruise. :D We had previously sailed on the Destiny when she was new and I was not impressed with Carnival, Part of that I am sure was the fact that DH and I both fell ill after eating in Cozumel, which was our first port of call on that cruise. In Jamaica, we had booked the Dunns River Falls/Dolphin Encounter. We had climbed the falls on the previous cruise but both being ill, didn't really enjoy it, also our port was Ocho Rios on that cruise. The drive to the falls was long and scary, the falls was wonderful, I was not impressed with the dolphin touch or the lunch, both of which were very rushed as we were the last group. But on the plus side, getting back on the ship was not nearly as scary as the last time. No Mean looking police with big guns this time. In Grand Cayman, we did the Hell, Turtle Farm and Stingray Adventure. I was nervous about this. I freaked a little when we first got into the water with them but after a couple minutes, I relaxed and loved it. I would definitely recommend this one. Was awesome!! Cozumel, we decided on the Atlantis Submarine and spent the rest of the day shopping and just enjoying being on our own. I never thought I could enjoy a cruise as much as our first, but I was wrong. The staff on the Conquest were wonderful,I never once encountered anyone that was anything but pleasant. I was very satisfied with the food, We ate dinner everynight in the dining room as RolDan and Jorge made it such a pleasant experience. The only thing I found there that I didn't care for was the New York Strip. It was tough, the prime rib was wonderful and I had that two nights, the burger in the dining room was the best I ever had., The combination omelette in the dining room for breakfast was very good, Had a Rueben from Paul's Deli and it was very good. The burgers on the lido and the pizza were just so so.We chose to eat at the point one evening and had a late sitting so we had entrees in the dining room first. I was not impressed with the point and would not do it again. Although the desserts were to die for. Am I sorry we went there? no, otherwise I would wonder what I missed, but I would not go again, some people love it. Just wasn't for us. I think the staff on the Conquest did a wonderful job, never once did I have kids running under my feet, nor were the hottubs filled with kids, room service was very fast,we had a couple problemswith our room, one was the first night our door kept coming open, we blamed each other for not closing it properly, well at 3 am our door was standing open.So use your deadbolts. LOL , but when we told Hondo the next morning it was fixed immediately with thermostat knob that kept falling off.Excellent Service. OHHHHHHHHH ONE MORE THING. I kept reading reviews about the band Blood Power, WOW they were great, do not pass up a chance to see them, to say they are great is an understatement. Did I have a great time?? YES, would I cruise Carnival again?? YOU BETCHA, do I recommend the Conquest. OHHHHHH YEAAAAA Our first time cruiser friends had a great time also, I had talked the husband into going, first day he was ready to get off the ship, second and third day, he was starting to loosen up and enjoy, fourth and 5th day, he wants another cruise by Last night he was saying this is "MY SHIP" LOL
