A cheap getaway
Embarkation: New York (Manhattan)
The Splendor was obviously built as a mass market people mover and lacked many ammenities found on other ships and cruiselines.
Food. Subjective as food may be the best grade I could give would be a C+. Carnival is great on presentation but was lacking in quality on this sailing. Many of us experienced cruisers agreed. We were dismayed at the limited choices in the buffets and the noninspirational main dining menu. There are no hot foods delivered to your cabin any more. The buffet lines are caotic and crowded. The only free flowing More beverages are coffee, tea, lemonade and a brown liquid that is identified as ice tea. No juices:( On the plus side the omlette station produced a decent breakfast if you don't mind a 20 minute wait. The Pinnacle Steak House is nothing to rave about at $35 pp but an upgrade over the main dining room; not worth the price.
We found the staff throughout the ship to be cordial and very accomodating. Housekeeping and dining services should be commended.
Entertainment. There is very little to do on this boat during the sea days of which we had 5/6 of them. Trivia contests and bingo. The cruise director, Malcom, did his best to keep us all distracted from the boredom. I will give Carnival credit for producing several very good stage shows.
Itinerary. We booked knowing the 3 stops we made would not be good ones but due to inclement weather they canceled the stop in Nassau which is the best of the 3. Port Canaveral/Cocoa Beach is a waste of time with limited activites. Freeport....ho hum.
As I previously mentioned if you are a first time cruiser then book it and enjoy. Repeat cruisers, fly to Florida. Less
Typical balcony cabin. Well placed on the ship near enough to elevators and stairs. Bathrooms come with hair wash/shower gel, adequate soap and promotional hair products.
