We have only been on Nile Cruises before, which we enjoyed. It was our Thirtieth Wedding Anniversary in September and we thought we'd give a Cruise covering the Eastern Med' a go. Loved the Destinations we went to and spending time together but that was about it.
Embarkation was well organised and we were impressed with our Cabin, well appointed with a lovely Balcony. This is when it went down Hill. The food in the Ocean View Café(unless it was fruit, Salad or Bread was terrible. Cold, the same all the time and very often getting a Table difficult. The Main Restaurant did get better after the Third Day. The Speciality Restaurants were very good but Waiters in Merano were a bit patronising, Silk Harvest tried a bit too hard with the fusion but the Italian-EXCELLENT. The Staff were great and the Food sensational. We opted to take Shore Excursions(Big Mistake) The ones to Rome, Pompeii and Valletta were AWFUL. We had an Hour and Ten Minutes at Pompeii, which we thought More
was a disgrace. The Tour Guides were patronising, if we were told about Pickpockets and not loosing our Guide one more time I think I might have strangled someone, we were all Adults and experienced Travellers by the way!! The Tours to Ephesus, Mykonos and Athens were much better. We had Guides who obviously new their stuff and didn't treat us like Children. Back to the Ship now. The Entertainment was repetitive to the point of insanity. The Guitar Player was very good but after you had heard the same stuff for the twentieth time it got a bit much and it was like that with most of it. We love to swim and it was beyond belief that the Outdoor pools had a maximum limit of 66, I have seen bigger Paddling Pools!!! Service now, it was vey odd that all of the Staff kept saying "Hello, Hello" into thin Air. Eye contact was rarely made. It was all a bit to false for our liking. Our Room Attendant, though charming, seemed irritated that we had Dinner late(Guests should be able to opt out of the Turning Down Service if they wish to)The Lady organising
Disembarkation to Shore Excursions was the most irritating person we have ever met, even more patronising than some of our Tour Guides and that is saying something!!! Even my easy going Husband wanted to tell her to "shut up" Celebrity Cruises, here is a hint, you can only call a Sparkling Wine Champagne if it comes from that Region in France, other wise it is Sparkling Wine. The French would be very annoyed about that. We didn't want free Sparkling Wine and Chocolate when we were unhappy with things, we wanted things to right in the beginning. Another thing, there were Notices in the Bathrooms to wash your hands for Forty Seconds, more people would if the Faucets were retimed to run fore that amount of time-simple really, it's not Rocket Science.
Day of Disembarkation, oh dear, oh dear, ,oh dear. Suddenly Staff were treating Passengers like c***p. No Coffee in the Ocean View, no "Hello, Hello" Just "We have had your Money, . The Concierge luxury Disembarkation point was The Silk Harvest Restaurant with the worst Coffee we have ever tasted. Someone was having a laugh and it wasn't us. This Cruise cost almost Seven Thousand Pounds. Celebrity Cruises, you got Our Money this time but it will the last!!!!!!!! Less
