Sailing the Breeze

Sail Date: October 2013
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: Miami

This was my 37th cruise, 11th on Carnival. We flew in 2 days prior and stayed with relatives. Embarkation was extremely easy and fast and luggage appeared within an hour. We booked a Spa Balcony on 11th floor. Had a great cabin steward who was very attentive and friendly. Found the room towels to be heavily textured and not so comfortable. My husband thought the bed was great. We brought 2 bottles of wine onboard and had wine glasses in the room.

We had anytime dining and got a table for 2 in Sapphire. Again we lucked out with a very good wait staff. Did not experience any long delays in food service that others have mentioned. The food itself was okay but nothing great in the dining room. We ate most days in the buffet for breakfast and lunch which was boring and repetitive. Additionally, I found the layout of the buffet annoying. They could take a lesson from Celebrity. Now breakfast or brunch in the dining room was a joke with very limited choices, again the same everyday. More Alternative eateries were busy, Guy's was better than expected, we really didn't try the others.

The number of pools for the size of the ship was too limited but seating was always available somewhere. The jacuzzis weren't hot enough though. We used the spa almost everyday.

We had a lively CC group and had a wonderful prepaid cocktail hour.

Entertainment was the usual cruise ship fare although they made an effort to have a better comedy club situation the seating was ridiculously limited. We attended several art auctions. Singers in the Atrium were Latin most nights which got old fast. The slides were pretty good, plenty of outdoor sports available and a nice promenade deck to walk around. The big screen showed some good selections. The Cruise Director was a bit amateur as he was a substitute. And the Asst CD very annoying perky. The casino was always packed. The layout of the ship was okay but having the photos in the atrium was a waste of space. The shops got old after 3 or 4 days.

We enjoyed Halloween as some of the costumes were a riot. I don't know how people packed some of those things they wore. At times passengers pretty much made their own entertainment as the CD was MIA.

We had some cloudy weather as well as rain in Curacao and Aruba. La Romana we took and excursion to Saona Island which was very picturesque.

We always enjoy going to Grand Turk and had a lively crowd at Margaritaville.

We were able to disembark without any hassle, our luggage was on the carousel and we got through customs in 20 minutes. We took SAS to FLL with no traffic only 30 minutes, very efficient. Less

took the bus to Palm Beach and was lucky to find a not too crowded area. The water and sand were great, we did not rent any chairs though.

Island Tour

disappointed in the tour I took, should have just walked into town. We had some bad rain so the bus was wet, the distillery crowded and a long wait for stragglers. Poorly organized and not that interesting. Got to the beach at 5--ridiculous waste of time.

always love this port because of the beach and the water. Also like to collect shells. Very relaxing.

Saona Island

somewhat difficult to find the correct taxi so travel in a group if possible. The boat was a bit difficult to get in and out of. The mangroves weren't that interesting nor was the snorkeling but the Island was fabulous. Very scenic, great water and sand. I could have been in Tahiti.
