We drove from Brevard County to Miami and parked at the Port of Miami Cruise Parking on 7th street. They were very reasonable. $4.50/ day to park and $5.00/ person for the shuttle service to the port. We had 4 people in our group, however, being that this lot is only 3 miles from the port, we dropped 2 people off at the port with the luggage and the other 2 went to the lot. (Saved $20 this way) Our car was fine, no damage, and the people were very nice and professional.
Embarkation was a breeze. We were through the lines and on the ship within 30 minutes. We were there after the rooms were ready, so we went straight to our rooms to freshen up, then met at the Garden Café for a bite to eat. We had a balcony room on deck 10. It was fairly small with very little storage, but the beds were comfy and it was very clean, plus sleeping with the balcony door open and hearing the waves every night was wonderful! Our steward was Mario. We didn't see him very often but our room was always clean and we always had fresh towels and ice.
Now on to the service. There was an issue with our onboard spending account so we went to Guest Services. They could not help us and asked us to come back to speak to the manager between 7 and 10. We arrived back at Guest Services around 9 to ask for the manager (as advised) and were interrogated as to what the problem was. The worker behind the counter made 3 trips to the manager in the back room and kept interrogating as to why he needed to be seen. This whole time, not one smile from anyone at the counter. It would have taken him maybe 10 steps and 5 minutes of his time to come to the desk himself. In the end, he never did show his face but relayed an answer through the front desk person. We were treated as if we were bothering them and the lack of customer service by the manager left a bad taste. They were the ones who told us to ask to speak to the manager as only he could help us. So to be interrogated when we asked for him was uncalled for. Unfortunately the service from the wait staff and most of the bartenders was just as unpleasant. Nobody was excessively rude, but there were hardly any smiles, and absolutely no personality. It was strange to experience that on a cruise ship, as I have sailed on even the cheapest low end ships and the level of service is always wonderful. It felt as if they were bothered by having to wait on us. One bartender in the Longboard bar was very nice, but the rest were unpleasant and unhappy. I thought this may have been an isolated situation until I read other reviews of this ship with the same complaint.
Aside from the less than great service on the ship, the ports were a blast. First stop, Great Stirrup Cay. The tender ride over almost made me puke it was so rocky, but that’s my weak stomach’s fault, not the ship. If it weren’t for the nausea it would have been a blast! The island is very nice; plenty of chairs to choose from and the food was plentiful and very good. The desserts were AWESOME!!! The only thing lacking on the island was more shade options. Later that night we ate at Il Adagio, the specialty Italian restaurant. It was just ok. Again the service lacked a whole lot of personality. Next was Nassau. We booked a day at Aquaventure in Atlantis….BY FAR BEST EXCURSION EVER! The place was huge and so much fun. There are several pools to lay by,also plenty of chairs and umbrellas. The lazy / not so lazy river was incredible and the slides were a blast! There were 5 ships in port that day so we were expecting an insane crowd….NOT AT ALL! We barely waited for longer than 5-10 minutes per slide. The jungle slide was my favorite and I could not stop laughing even when I dropped into the pool at the bottom. I highly recommend this excursion. It has something for everybody. In Freeport we spent the day by the ship’s pool. There were plenty of chairs available and the music was nice and not too loud. We then ventured on shore for some Senor Frog’s nachos (A must in the Bahamas) Food was yummy and so was our waiter..LOL! We dressed in costume later that night for the Halloween party. It was pretty cool Some of the costumes were amazing.
Disembarking was a breeze. We had a little breakfast at the garden café buffet and took our time getting off the ship. We waited about 15 minutes for the bus to take us back to the parking lot. All in all it was a good time because it was still a cruise and I was with great company. I just wish the service was a little more up to par.
