Crown Princess  November 11, 2006

About us- Mom & Dad, mid 30's, son 11 and daughter 9. We were joined by friends, also in their mid 30s with a son, 8. This was our 1st Princess cruise, 9th overall, cruising RCI (4 times), Disney (3 times), and Carnival (once) in the past. We choose Princess for this cruise because of the combination of new ship and a new itinerary several ports we have not had a chance to visit in the past.

Embarkation/Disembarkation  Embarkation was quick and easy. The week prior to ours, which was the Crowns first cruise out of San Juan, we had heard the stories of how it took forever for passengers to get on. We decided to take our chances and went to the pier around 11:15 am, there were around 50 or so passengers waiting outside to get in at that point. Sometime close to noon they let us go in the building and by 12:30 we had our room cards, duty-free liquor and we were on the ship. Disembarkation was a disappointment though. I'm not a big fan of how Princess or RCI does this process and I don't know if it was the customs agents that slowed the process, but it was about 12:45 when we finally got to go, and there were still several color groups to be called after us. From 9:30  about 10:20am, they stopped calling any color groups to disembark. Not sure what the delays were, but this felt like a long process. If they are going to disembark by floors, they should let the last floors to disembark have the ability to stay in their staterooms a little longer. I still like Disney's system the best, just line up and leave when you are ready. I'm willing to bet that some of the passengers who embarked on 11/18 are not going to be as happy with the embarkation process as we were.
