This is my first review with CC.
This was our 19 th NCL Cruise. (#66) in total. It was our third time on the Gem. We chose this cruise for itinerary and length. Warm weather and over 7 days. At this point we have been to every port imaginable. We are lucky enough to cruise 4 or 5 times a year. Our motivations are relaxation and solitude. Retired but still active in two businesses. The ocean is the Ace. Relaxing and a mind wash.
Of all the Lines sailed we most prefer NCL. The flexibility of freestyle gives us the freedom to do as we wish. Sleep when we want, eat what wish. The Latitudes, and Casinos at Sea programs comp us to death. Dinners, wines, flowers in the room and more little APPETIZERS than we could eat.
That said: We Stayed in the Haven Deck 14. We usually travel in a Jr.-suit or higher. The Haven is a whole different cruise altogether. Close enough to get to all the activities ( Mid Ship). It affords just about a private pool, sauna, abbreviated gym and private lounge. We had a two BR suite. (Two baths as well) although the second had just a shower.. The Butler was great but he was human and now and again he forgot something. It didn't ruin my cruise.
The activities aboard the Gem are consistent with what you would expect. Not the grandest but definitely comparable with most of the ships out there. From an Art Gallery and auctions, to Bingo and entertainment. Shopping was all available and enough to keep my wife pacified. We look for a non structured lifestyle onboard so we rarely take part in daily activities. They are However all there.
We had no problems to report. No list of grievances. No problem about tipping and will be happy to go back. Sorry we didn't meet any other CC members but we felt we were not there for that. Yes we will go back. Two booked for next year so far.
Shopping and good food are available with many choices. St Thomas is a seasoned cruise-port. It is known for great jewelry prices and food. Ate at the Fat Turtle in Yacht Harbor.
