FANTASTIC EASTERN MED CRUISE FOR 1ST TIMERS
I don't normally write reviews but enjoyed this cruise so much that felt I really wanted to this time.
We embarked at Limassol very quickly, but as we live in cyprus and made our own way to the port maybe it helped. We paid a little more for a cabin on the 4th deck and was glad we did, much easier to reach the restaurants/bars etc from there. The cabin was absolutely fine - 2 single beds in an L configeration, and kept exceptionally clean by our steward, Ana who also made lovely towel animals for me each night. I found the pillow to be a little hard for my liking so just mentioned it to her on the first night, about 15 mins later she appeared with 2 lovely soft fluffy ones!
We ate in the lido every night and really enjoyed the food, only issue was that on theme nights which seemed to be almost every night there was not too much choice of english food. This didn't bother us but we noticed on the indian (curry) night it was quite quiet as though quite a few chose the More compass rose. I fell in love with the afternoon teas with lovely little sandwiches and hot scones. We also sometimes ate outside at the lido pool side snack type area - again all good.
The best thing by far was the staff who really all seemed to enjoy their jobs. The entertainment team were unbelievably professional, putting on some fantastic shows twice very night and all showcasing their talents. We're now booking for next year, a different itinery but same ship, we loved her. Less

Port and Shore Excursions
As the port is 7 miles away we decided to book a trip and very glad we did. Saw all the sites and then left for 1.5 hours at the Plaka at the foot of the acropolis. Had we had longer we would have explored the acropolis by ourselves as this wasn't included in the tour we booked but time was limited. We enjoyed Athens much more than we thought we would. A really beautiful city and the Plaka area was lovely. The tour guide was very informative and professional.
The ship docks just to the right of the bay which you can easily walk round in about 15 mins into the main shopping area which is lovely. It is quite a pretty place with some characters in the shops trying to entice you to buy their goods. They're not hard sell though so it's pleasant to just wander the streets. There's a castle to explore that you do need turkish lira for to get into - we didn't bother but it looked quite interesting.
Again ships docks near to the action, but quite a bit of huzzle and buzzle as you come out of the port. We went first to Pigeon island across the causeway - a nice walk but disappointing to find nothing much there once we got there - the castle is all closed for renovations so we couldn't get through to the gardens or anything. We came back on ourselves, then looked around the shops. The shopkeepers here are a bit more aggressive in their selling, but again just politely and firmly say no! A nice place and bigger than Bodrum, but enjoyed Bodrum more.
Loved Rhodes town but a very confusing place to find your way around. All the old city is within the walls and not much anywhere in the way of good tourist maps. We found out later that we should have gone through one of the first gates we came across when walking round from the port - think one is called Catherines gate? Lookily we sort of stumbled across most of the sites in between the shops and restaurants. Be careful not to get lost in the back streets like we did. before you know it it's time to get back on the ship. That said a really historical pleasant place to easily spend several hours.
We actually went to Patmos not Santorini. Patmos was on the itinery but for some reason is not on the list to review?? It was a stunning island - absolutely beautiful. We caught the local bus up to the monastry which we were so glad we had done - the views were amazing. After the visit to the monastry we walked back down following the paths which were much quicker than the road. We managed to find the little chapel half way down the hill but we got there just about 1.30pm to be told it was closing! Never mind, still a stunning, real shirley valentine place to visit.
