This is our first cruise on Norwegian Sun. I thought the crew was very attentive and upbeat, lots of energy. There is something to do every hour of the day, whatever you interest level is. And the pool area was always hopping with music and activities. Or you could just relax on your balcony. We discovered the Observation Lounge about 4 days in and loved the quiet comfortable view from there. It ended up being one of our favorite spots. We attended every evening entertainment and loved the comedian, juggler, ventriloquist and the hypnotist. Although the musical shows weren't bad, they seemed a little amateurish. But there was no doubt that the Sun singers/dancers worked hard at what they did. We loved the ports, which were all new to us except St Thomas which has changed since we were there in the 90's. We considered this a wonderful vacation and although there were a few things that caused us to say, "what the?" we didn't let it ruin our overall experience.

These were the cons of the trip. I had read many reviews about the ship being old, but well kept. We were in a balcony room 0250. I thought there was plenty of storage but the stories about the age not showing didn't hold true. The sofa was worn and seemed broken, as the seat never stayed in one place. The balcony was rusty and looked like it could use a coat of paint. We thought the bed was very hard, but asked for and were given a foam pad to help cushion the bed. One other thing that bothered us was the smoke coming out of the casino. Why would you put the biggest smoking area right next to the center of the ship? The end of the casino that opened into the atrium was wide open with no door so that the smoke smell filled the entire atrium area. We hated going to that area because of the heavy smoke smell. Not sure why the designer of the ship would do that. We also caught wind of the sewage smell mentioned on previous reviews. It didn't show up until about the 7th day. We could only imagine the holding tank was getting pretty full? Don't know but the smell was aft and on the lower floors. Not very pleasant.

The food was ok to very good. We did one of the specialty restaurants, Modermo, which was very empty but the food was excellent. We were celebrating a birthday and were very glad we decided on that one. Ate dinner every other night in the MDR. Every night was not a "wow" dinner but they always did a nice job on the breads and service.

Cabin Review

The cabin was roomy enough. However the balcony could use some paint. The shower is so very small, but worked okay. We had plenty of storage space and this being our first balcony, it was delightful to sit out there and enjoy the view. Best part of the trip!
