I was quite prepared to like the ship as my Norwegian friend said it was good.
This was our 28th cruise. This was the first time for free style dining. On this ship free style meant serve the mediocre food in the "complimentary" dining rooms and stick it to the passengers who go to the specialty dining rooms to get the food and service that is normal fare on other ships.
As another commented, the soup on the first night was cold. The roast chicken was so tough you could hardly cut it, the mashed potatoes were like soup and the peas & carrots weren't cooked. The next nights meal wasn't much better. These were in the 7 Seas. We then tried the Italian restaurant. The food and service was excellent. The kind of service you get in the main dining rooms on Holland America and Celebrity.
The servers station near our table in the 7 Seas, smelled of rotten food. The third time we went to the dining room, I had to leave as the smell of the area and the appearance of the food had me gagging.
The Garden Café had a very small buffet and most of the food was only palatable. The idiot standing at the door of the Garden Café going washy-washy every time you entered was most irritating.
The smell in the area outside the officers mess, by the only elevator that went to the 4th floor smelled like someone had vomited on the carpet.
The itinerary was good, but it was very unpleasant coming back on board with the music blaring at us. Their security lines were a joke.
There weren't too many of the staff that I could compliment. Good service was far and few between. Halls going nowhere, only one aft elevator going to the 4th floor, and a very confusing layout to the ship made it a challenge to find your way around.
The folks running the different trivia games and audience participation games were good, except for bingo. Bingo was so overpriced for what they paid out and the idiot calling the numbers goofed around constantly.
The drink prices on this ship were a lot more expensive that the prices on other ships we have been on.
The amenities such as no housecoats, no hand/body lotion, no candy on the pillows at night and no shopping bags were missing. To us it seemed like they didn't care if you were there or not.
A letter of concern was sent to Hotel Director Bryan, but to this date, I have not heard a peep from him. This does not reflect well on the cruise line.
