Lovely Cruise on the Celebrity Summit
Destination: Canada & New England
Embarkation: Bayonne (Cape Liberty)
This was our second cruise on the Summit.. We previously cruised on this ship in Aug. 2010. We were anxious to see the changes done during the renovation and were not disappointed.
Embarkation: Our embarkation was delayed due to code red procedures that were in place for a norovirus outbreak on the previous cruise. We were able to check in at 5 PM but it went very smoothly and we were on board by 5:30 and having a beer at the Sunset Bar. Since we live in NJ it is very easy to get to the Bayonne port and our daughter dropped us off and picked us up. The crew was excellent at cleaning and preventing another outbreak.
Ship: This is an older ship but we love the size. We prefer this size ship compared to the mega size ships. We sailed in Aqua class and we would definitley do so again. Blu was excellent and was beyond our expectations. We were able to request seating in the same station each morning and evening because we loved the service provided by Rambo and Oksana. We More ate breakfast and dinner every day in Blu. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere is so much better than the MDR.
Entertainment: We very much enjoyed the Production singers, expecially Glenn and Hannah. The shows themselves were a bit corny but the talent and enthusiasim of the singers and dancers made up for it. Mark Preston, a former member of The Lettermen, was one of the guest entertainers and he was superb. Tom Wopat was the Studio 54 entertainer and although he was suffering from some throat issues we enjoyed his performance and the Q&A done afterwards by the Cruise Director Alexander Yepremian. Alexander was a great CD and also a great singer.
Ports: We enjoyed all the ports although Gaspe is quite small but had very pretty scenery. I liked Quebec the best and my husband liked Halifax. The weather was not the the best but this did not impact our enjoyment of our vacation.
Food: Again Blu was fantastic. A hidden gem in our opinion was Bistro on Five. For a $5.00 cover charge you can literally eat all you want. We did not go to the buffet at all since we either ate lunch in port or at Bistro on Five. I would recomment trying the Tuscan crepe for lunch and the Italian crepe for dessert DELICIOUS!
Cabin: Due to the norovirus outbreak on the previous saling some of the Aqua Class amenities were originally missing. Our room steward Diana was great and provided all items as soon as they were available. The shower is so much better with doors instead of a shower curtain. All you have to do to prevent a flood on the floor is to pull the doors slightly inwards while showering, not a big deal at all. The room size was fine for 2 people and there is lots of storage space.
Disembarkation: Unfortunately disembarkation was not handled particularly well. Aqua class and Conceirge class were told to meet in the Normandie restaurant to wait for disembarkation. There were not enough seats for everyone and it was a bit chaotic. I would recommend that Celebrity rethink how and where they do disembarkation for Aqua Class.
In conclusion we had a great time and would whole heartedly recommend the Summit. Great crew Great ship Great Time! Less
