great time with a few bumps
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Port Canaveral (Orlando)
traveled with spouse and friends ages 45-70. The trip was wonderful and the ship is very nice. Really enjoyed all excursions booked through the Carnival website. The food was very good in the main dining room. the deli and burgers also very good. The breakfast buffet has lots of choices, while mostly the same each day there was so many choices you could have something different every day. We thought the food was adequate and good for a buffet.
The ship has very small pools and really would only say 1.5 which does not leave any room to swim with that many people on board. Hot tubs always full and was only able to get in once. I cruise ship with that many people really needs more pool space as it was too hot to be outside in the sun when you could not wiggle a spot into the pool. If the pools would be larger it might help also but one pool is extremely small and the other is in the middle of grand central with loud music, kids running and yelling and no chairs to be found and More no pool room.
we found the shows to be good. The ventriloquist did a great job and the musical shows also good. seating was hard to find after dinner to see the shows so go early to get a seat. Bingo seemed expensive.
Again the dining room was very good food and fair service. always very busy and almost impossible to get a drink other than water. My husband had to go to the bar to get his own drinks most nights. It seems they would want to sale the drinks as this is a big money maker but if you got one you felt lucky and if you got two you felt you had won a prize. Also the dress code was very slack. I really enjoy the formal evenings and hate to sit by someone in a tee shirt and flip flops. Had people in the dining room every night that should not have been allowed in. Why have a dress code if you are not going to uphold it. there are plenty of other places to eat if you do not want to dress. It really does take away from the ambiance of the evening and the classy feeling when your neighbor looks like he just left the gym.
the adults only deck consisted of a lot of older people that drank too much and fell asleep in the nice romantic chairs and hammocks. many passed out for hours or laying all over each other sound asleep. Kids also on deck and no pool to cool off in. very disappointing as I expected a very classy, cozy and romantic place and found a sleep area for people that drank to much and dad taking pics of his younger sons as they ran around the deck. So people either like to break the rules or simply do not respect others. I do not hold Carnival responsible for this as there is no one on the deck to supervise and the bar is a flight of stairs down.
as in most situations children and teens very rude and loud. running up and down the halls banging on doors and yelling. running on the decks and being very loud. again people have decided not to parent children and teach them to be someone others want to be with but instead make people say I sure hope they are not beside me. Again not Carnival's fault that the 30's and younger generations seem to have missed the manners and respect lessons growing up and older folks had better watch out because there is no respect. Small children left unattended or watching their parents get drunk and act stupid. I just don't get the concept of bring babies and small children on a cruise that you plan to party like crazy and ignore your children.
the staff on the ship was excellent. Our steward remembered our name after the first meeting and always greeted us by name. Everyone was friendly and helpful and loved the shows at dinner each night. No complaints at all about the staff, the cleanliness or the ship at all other than the extremely small pool for such a large number of people.
would I go back, yes, Maybe my next cruise I will try RCCL that is geared a little more to less party and more class. I think the lower prices does attach a wide variety of people and people are free to do what they want but I sure would hate to sleep all day and drink all night and not see anything else like many people we saw. More kids than I expected. I booked during school season and we still had over 1000 kids on board. I love kids but most of these made you go in the other direction or worry for their safety due to unconcerned parents.
Again we did have a great time and feel the Dream is an exceptional value. Just be prepared for lots of younger drinkers, lots of loud and rude kids and not much pool room. However you will have excellent food, great excursions, wonderful service and you can find a few quiet spots to rest and read and enjoy the beauty of the sea ( deck 5 just outside the doors by the encore) usually not many people, plenty of chairs and the only noise will be the people on the balconies talking back and forth. we decided to save money for more fun stuff than sleeping and booked an interior room. we had three adults so was a little nervous until we opened the door. It was a nice surprise to find plenty of room for all of us and lots of storage. I would book interior again since all you see at night out a window at sea is black. If you are a stay in your cabin person I can see a window or balcony but otherwise the interior is more than big enough for 3 adults and 3 large suitcases. closets are very large and bags easily slide under the bed. great job carnival making the trip even more affordable and allowing us to be able to do more excursions with the money
