Ship Facts: MSC Magnifica Review (by Cruise Critic!) | MSC Magnifica Deck Plans
Impressed - Faith restored in Cruise Holidays

Last year we went on MSC Armonia so can compare.

We used Rome Airport Transportation to meet us at the airport and take us to the ship. This worked out really well from being greeted by the driver (with our names on a board) just outside customs to the comfort of the vehicle this cost 120E.

The embarkation process was a breeze compared with Armonia. Once onboard we were left to our own devices to find our cabin. Room was a little smaller but generally ok.

We used the restaurant every evening and the service was excellent. We had taken the drinks package and made full use of it and found it great value. Every time we turned up for dinner our bottle of wine was already in the ice bucket. The staff could not do enough for us. The food was adequate with a good choice. For breakfast we used room service as we did not want to suffer the bun fight at the buffet - how the staff put up with it I have no idea? The food at the buffet is never hot enough nor well cooked and we are never sure of the hygiene - staff and passengers - you just need to look what goes on? Armonia was ok but not up to this standard

We rarely use the excursions as they do not provide value for money and we do some research on each port of call and find our way around even to the extent of using buses and trains if there is enough time. We went to Istanbul and Izmir unfortunately it was a public holiday so everywhere was really busy. Not a great issue but pleased we were not on an excursion.

The evening entertainment was excellent for us. The shows in the theatre were a good mixture of some opera plus pop covers singing, dancing and acrobatics. There were two bar areas with live bands and it was good to get up and dance with so many others (on some cruises we have been the only ones). The dance floors were a reasonable size which is unusual. We also went to the nightclub on the top floor this was one of the best we have come across on a cruise ship. It was well laid out big dance floor and excellent atmosphere and music. The Armonia does not have such a good variety of bars with bands and dancing.

Disembarkation worked well for us as we took our time over breakfast sat around the pool and got off the ship late morning and our cases were the only ones left in the baggage hall. We had decided to go back to the airport using public transport. It took us 20 minutes to walk to Civitavecchia station the train was waiting and cost 5E each for the 1 hour trip. The train arrived at platform 28 and we deposited our cases at left luggage for 10E. We spent a few hours walking around Rome e.g. Coleseum. We used self service ticket machines for our tickets to the airport (you need to be careful lots of people trying to help you for a price), this cost 14E each.

Our Cabin Room was adequate. Great to have breakfast and a beer or 2 when the weather was warm enough. Shower was little on the small size large people might struggle. TV worse than useless but not bothered. Watched a little football at the Sports Bar (brilliant facility).

One negative point. My partner had around 6 nasty bites on her legs. Only in the bedroom in the bed area. I was lucky and was not affected. We have to assume they were bed bugs/fleas. We mentioned this to reception who organised (supposedly) 2 deep cleans. I am not going to defend the ship but you can get these at some of the poshest hotels. We saw one or two others with similar bites on their legs. We will get these bites checked out in the UK

Found our way to the terminal and the flight was on time

All in all an excellent cruise great ship and possibly the best one yet. We would certainly go again
