We flew into LaGuardia the day before the cruise. Having grown up in the area, I didn't need to sight-see, but did want to go to the 9/11 Memorial. So glad we were able to spend the afternoon there.
Embarkation Saturday morning was a breeze. We were the 3rd and 4th passengers escorted onto the ship. Love the Suite Life! Lunch at Cagney's. The staff working breakfast and lunch at Cagney's were always efficient and so friendly. We had a lot of fun with them throughout the week!
We were in our SF (Aft Suite) before 1pm. The room was spotless - except for the uninvited visitor we had (more about that later!). Our bottle of sparkling wine and a bottle of water were chilled and ready for us. There were 2 other water bottles on the desk -- those are NOT complimentary, although there is nothing stating you will be charged. We took the More advice of others and asked for Orange Juice to make mimosas with the sparkling wine. We did not request the mini-bar be cleaned out, but our butler made room for the pitcher of OJ he brought us -- 3 mornings of mimosas!
Concierge, Carlos, is the best! We didn't request his services much, but he was always checking with us to make sure we were happy (we were!). Our butler, Teodoro -- love him! Super efficient! If you so much as mentioned something, he seemed to instinctively know what would make you happy -- and would make it happen without even being asked! The last morning, he appeared out of nowhere to hold the elevator open for us! This was on the complete other end of the ship....... it was one of those magical moments!
Our Room Steward, Pablo, was very efficient. The only complaint I have is that on our final morning, when we came back from breakfast at Cagney's (7:30am), our suitcases still in the room, he was in our room and already had it almost ready for the next guests. Not a big deal, but we thought we'd have a few minutes to relax in the room before vacating by 8:00am.
The uninvited guest: The first night, there was a giant moth who made an appearance -- we were trying to swat him with cloth napkins!! He got away....... only to reappear 3 nights later in the middle of the night! He was very aggressive that night! Of course they don't bite, but this moth was flying into us repeatedly! I guess he was still mad about that first night! lol We did see him one other time, near the end of the cruise, but he quickly disappeared again. No one else we talked to had a moth in their room!!
The Meet & Greet was Sunday, 10/6, our sea day, in Bliss Lounge from 11am to noon. We had 65 sign up, but only about 30 showed up. Very disappointing since NCL really went out of their way for us. They had hot & cold beverages and snacks; six of the Senior Officers (including Captain Staffan) and Julie, the Cruise Director, were there -- they gave a great presentation. I only wish it had been better attended. I had coordinated it and frankly was embarrassed at the turnout. Thank you, Etienne and staff, for all your hard work on our behalf.
We had dinner most nights in Magenta. Always requested a "shared table" and met some really wonderful people!
We did not plan any excursions through NCL. In Halifax, 6 of us did a private tour through Halifax Titanic Tours. We give it very high marks. Dave and Paul are awesome.
We loved Bar Harbor - although with Acadia National Park closed, we didn't get to see all we hoped to see. The weather was beautiful and we took the 1 hour Oli's Trolley; then lunch at West Street Cafe, which was wonderful.
Although this was only our 2nd NCL cruise (having spent the first one in The Haven on the Pearl), this one far exceeded our expectations. Less
We love the quiet and serenity of being in the very back of the ship; neighbors on one side of us. The room was very clean and everything in good working order. The shower/tub was a bit tricky - you have to be careful stepping out.
