Living in California it is nice to be able to cruise for a long weekend. No cooking, cleaning, entertaining folks, just a lot of self-indulgence.
The Golden Princess has been around for a while, and needs a little TLC, but it is clean, well attended, and is just fine for these small cruises. We had a cabin right at the rear of the ship on the Caribe Deck, and it was a great cabin to have. The cabin was a nice size, lots of storage, very clean, thank you to Jay our cabin steward, and the balcony is so lovely. We sat out there many a time just watching the ocean we were crossing over. We always try to get a cabin at the rear of the ship, they just feel larger and it is nice to hear the sound of the ocean. They are a bit more money but well worth it.
We spent most of the time on the ship, as we have done this cruise more than once, and have seen Ensenada many times. It was very nice to see though that the Port at Ensenada has gotten so much nicer than the first time we went way back when.
We found the food especially good. The Horizon Court was busy, and sometimes crowded, but the food was great. We did lunches and breakfast there mostly, and once went to breakfast at the dining room, liked Horizon more. Dinner at the dining room was also very good, the servers were delightful, we had a nice time there. You never go hungry on a cruise ship!
As a birthday treat for my husband I bought the $25 wine tasting and most of the six wines were delicious. We had tasted one before, but the other 5 were new and great. Also the appetizers were different, and most delicious. We really enjoyed this experience and hope to do it on our next cruise.
We attended the show with the Chefs from the ship and it was entertaining and fun. We took the printed recipes and intend to try some of them at home. We also went to the Comedian show, but were not overly impressed with it. One of our most fun entertainment experiences was on the 14th floor where we watched the 49'er football game. We drank beer and cheered madly for them.
Was there anything we weren't overly enthused with, yes. However, my general philosophy about cruising is, it is only going to be as good as you make it. We paid the money, we got on board, and we had a good time, because we knew we would!
