Sail Date: Oct 2006

The Century, after its much-trumpeted 55 million-dollar makeover, sailed from Barcelona to Miami on October 27, My wife and I, celebrating our 51st anniversary and having sailed on 13 cruises, decided to spring for a balcony cabin in Concierge Class, being attracted by the advertised perks for the extra few dollars. Sure enough, we had a special boarding line and set a record of 25 minutes from entering the terminal to sitting in our cabin.

In the cabin, we found the champagne, the flowers and one of the most comfortable beds I have ever had on a ship. The cabin itself wasn't much different from the standard balcony cabin, but it had the extra-thick bath robes (complimentary) and what was announced as extra cabin services. By the way, although we had read other reviews complaining of poor insulation, we heard very little from cabins on either side of us.

The highlight of a Celebrity cruise, we were told, was the food and here I cannot argue. The meals, particularly the cold soups and meats, were of very high quality. In addition to the Grand Dining Room, there were several other venues, including a good sushi bar, outside hot dog, hamburger and special counter (which had, on occasion, bratwurst, ribs, chicken, etc.)as well as the inevitable cafe with pizza bar, ice cream bar, large selection of hot dishes and assorted roasts. There was also a specialty restaurant, which was, at $30 per person, a little too rich for our blood.
