Feedback on our recent Carnival Splendor Cruise
Although courteous not overly friendly compared to other cruise lines we were on.
We ate dinner in the dining room every night. The items featured in the everyday menu section really needed to be improved such as a gourmet hamburger, which is still a hamburger that can be eaten anytime / anywhere. It should not be listed in the dining room along with the dining fair. Then flat iron steak, this is low grade / quality meat. The lobsters were so small………….maybe 4oz, were over cooked / dried up.
The library should have the same hours as the shops, open every day / all day while at sea. When we inquired @ guest services if someone could open a book cabinet for a book we wanted to read, they did not offer to help us. The guest service deck was not busy at the time either.
Yes, I realize this is basically a necessary evil way for a cruise line to make money, but I just wanted to scream. We put up with the photographers interrupting our dinner nightly, but worse than that were trying to walk through the casino to the dining room. The photographers on deck 5 extending out from the casino really hampered people from walking. This was an every night occurrence. Also, some stairways were blocked for photographers. It almost felt like an assault. On one occasion, a photographer nearly knocked my wife over. The photographer kept backing up, totally unconcerned of what’s behind him and we got a look like it was our fault.
The DJ at poolside & duet Carnival cruise band performing next to guest services were definitely too loud. Although the female singer had a decent voice, her male partner did not. The band performing in the casino nightly should be replaced. These guys were just flat with no energy.
We think Carnival really missed the mark because there were two bands on board that were sensational, The Chatter & Cartoon. These bands were simply great & definitely underutilized.
The Chatter was made to perform in a room that was totally inappropriate for any great band. Either one of these bands should of played at poolside instead of the DJ. This was our first cruise ship we were on that did not have live entertainment at poolside. Co-incidentally, we had seen the Chatter Band on the Explorer of the Sea Ship last year around Labor Day weekend. Let me tell you, they got everyone pumped up. It was a great & lively time. Something Carnival should have utilized at poolside. And then, the time Carnival scheduled these two great bands to perform was ridiculous. At 3PM in the afternoon when many people are at poolside or on the sun deck. The Carnival head haunches need to open there eyes.
Pool lounge chairs!
There supposedly was a rule—no saving lounge seats with towels & after 45 minutes, towels will be removed. How come this rule was never enforced???
We did not find him funny. We did not relate to his type of humor. The woo – thing was simply annoying an old already. Also, he was never visible among passengers. Why wasn’t he involved more in all the activities. Every cruise we sailed, the cruise directed was totally involved. The cruise director on the Carnival Breeze we went on last winter was twice as involved. He always made you smile, something lacking on the Splendor.
We felt it was not up to par. There were too many varieties of fish, chicken that were way too spiced up. We felt the selections for lunch were very poor. Thank god for the rotisserie grill, the chicken there was great!!! The carved beef was really tough, almost like rubber but we did enjoy the carved turkey station.
The dancers & the two lead singers were great when they performed. But, only two lead singers, there simply wasn’t enough variety. Then the one night the game show that took the place of the production show. That was a waste; everyone was walking out of the theater.
Of the 7 cruises that we sailed on, the Carnival Splendor came in last place. We hope they will listen to some of our complaints made by us and others and make the proper changes needed so Carnival Cruise Lines can live up to its name being the Fun Ship..
