Having never cruised before, but have listened to many stories from my parents. We decided to give it a try and get our feet wet. Somewhat reluctant at first, we decided to book the 4 day Bahamas cruise on the Majesty. My parents 1st cruise was on this ship when it was new and coincidentally we made our first cruise on it as well.
We (family of 4, children 9 &12) elected to fly into Fort Lauderdale and shuttle to Courtyard Marriott Miami. We saved a couple hundred bucks flying into FLL. We shuttled to Miami using a service called Jiffy Jeff 305.588.6143. Jeff called me while we were in lay over to make sure everything was still on schedule. Once arriving at FLL, Jeff was waiting for us, loaded our bags into a very clean and fresh Mercedes van. Jeff is American, native to Miami and believe it or not spoke English($15.00 a person to Miami).
After staying the night in Miami we used the Hotel shuttle($5.00 a person) to get to the Port. The process of boarding the ship at first sight was somewhat overwhelming. The long lines moved FAST and SMOOTH. Everyone was very helpful and courteous and we processed through very quickly and found ourselves on the ship in no time.
Once on board it was like "oh my god, are you kiddin me" i haven't seen anything like that before.Taking advice from my parents, we made our way to the Windjammer cafe' ate lunch and waited for the announcement that the rooms were ready. It didn't take long and that announcement was made(about 1:00pm). Our luggage arrived at the room a short time later.
We had room 6046 and although a little small (122 sq ft) we had no trouble with a family of 4. Our dining experience was nothing short of excellent. Our waiter, Nowere from Dominican Republic was very personable and fun. If the kids didn't like what they had it was not a problem to send it back and get a good ole stand-by of spaghetti or something else. State room attendant did an outstanding job of taking care of our room. She made animal figures out of the towels. The kids really loved them and would guess at dinner what animal they could expect when they got back to the room. The shows were fun and entertaining. I would recommend sending your wife or girl friend to the shopping excursion meeting in the chorus line theatre. it was informative and helpful.
The Ports of Call were great and we had a wonderful time. We didn't rent a umbrella at CoCo Cay we claimed a few lounge chairs under some trees near the paddle boat rental shack. It was hot at first but once the sun went behind us the shade from the trees felt nice. Once the sun got high in the sky we noticed others coming over to our area and finding the shade. The kids rented a paddle boat and had a good time with that. The food was good too. Consisted of bbq ribs, chicken, hot dogs hamburgers with lots of fruit. Nassau was nice. We just walked through the shops and took in the sights. Key West is beautiful, but take my advice. Purchase the hop on and off ticket. It is a little cheaper on the ship. We didn't and by the time we returned i wish we had.
Wrapping this up. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we booked a second cruise to Honduras and Belize for next October.
