Great value for money

Sail Date: September 2013
Destination: Mediterranean
Embarkation: Palma de Mallorca

All inclusive travel to lovely Mediterranean destinations is available at a budget price on Island Escape. It isn't the most luxurious ship and bits are well worn but its all about value. We didn't expect "Harrods" when we were paying "Tesco" prices!

That said, the cabins were adequate (we paid extra for a window on deck 7 and were very pleased).

In the dining areas food was plentiful and there was a good selection of dishes available for every meal - including snacks and afternoon tea. There was no need for a dinner jacket and smart casual was universally adopted for dining - especially in the Island and Oasis restaurants.

Public areas were always spotless and comfortable and the shows in the theatre and bar entertainments were excellent. On deck the pool was very small and made little more than a focal point. There were not enough sun beds for everyone when all were on board for the Day at Sea but staff tried to prevent "bed bagging". There was a good More choice of areas to sit indoors with different moods and entertainments to suit a wide clientele.

The service on board was superb. Our cabin attendant was attentive and seems to work by magic - never intruding but keeping the cabin beautifully and adding fun touches with towel sculptures. From the bar staff, waiters and housekeeping to entertainment team, officers and even the Captain Thackray, everyone on Island Escape worked hard to keep smiling and to offer the very best service to all their customers (even the few who were challenging).

When visiting ports, a good range of trips were offered at reasonable prices. Few travellers could afford an excursion at every port but in most places the port town was pleasant. The shore advisers supplied maps and a little information about what was available (though advice on whether the beach is suitable to swim or whether steps and hills are a feature of the town - or even availability of local buses would have added more to these visits).

The whole experience of this holiday cruise was a pleasant one. It was superb value for money and stress free thanks to the smooth operation of the staff. We paid a very reasonable price for an all inclusive cruise and had excellent value for money. Less
