The crew and the “ports” are great! First the crew…wonderful and attentive says it. On the Helvetia, we especially appreciated the attention and friendliness, and enjoyed Peter our maître de, Nathan server, Davorka server, Mae server, Martin server, Liza server, Tomas and Yana at the desk and concierge…they were extremely friendly and attentive. Mae, Liza, and Nathan in particular are always smiling and that greatly increases the positive experience with Viking. The service and help could not be better. George is a great activities director and takes great care and attention to ensure guests are happy with their Viking experience. Thank you to Yana and Tomas for working with the “First Officer” to get us a schedule of the lock crossings, especially considering that we were not able to cruise to Basel, when the locks would be viewable during the late afternoon and evening (viewing the crossings in the early morning before daylight was a highlight).
There is an issue that we think merits reporting to Viking for improvement.
The double and triple ship docking was not acceptable. We sleep with our windows and sliding doors open at night year round at home for necessary fresh air and the adjacent boat odors, close quarters with another ship, the security issues with other passengers coming through sliding doors, and the shear privacy issues make it very undesirable. We understand the number of docks are apparently limited and the expanded number of ships on the Rhine prevent single ship docking impractical, but the upgraded staterooms and their cost should mean the elimination of double and triple docking.
