I have cruised for 10 + years and based on my experience this was the most disappointing.
Airport arrival - we connected with Carnival reps and were told that the shuttle would be arriving within minutes. We pulled our luggage outside and walked longer than we should have, in the heat. The shuttle they thought was picking us up, was not for us. So we waited a while longer. I think the wait would have been ok but we could have stayed inside the airport where we could have seats and ac available.
Embarkation - we arrived at the Port Everglades around 1 - 1:15 PM on September 21 and the line extended around the building. I had never experienced a back-up like that in all my years of cruising. Once we were inside, the lines looped.
Ship information - appearance -wise, we did not like this ship. The design is ugly. The flooring the Lido area needs to be replaced, it has a dirty look and this is not good for an area where people eat.
Cabin - once we arrived on the ship, we were greeted by our great cabin steward, Peter and his assistant, "First Son" were very friendly and helpful all during the week.
Our ocean view cabin was just fine in size and very clean.
Dining - we are accustomed to being seated with other diners and we enjoyed that because we get to meet new people. Over the years, we have had really interesting dinner mates from around the world. We requested a move but we were told that because of the number of groups and families, it would not be possible.
So to accommodate this need for interaction, we started eating breakfast or brunch in the Posh when those meals were available. At dinner, we ate in the Chic Restaurant- table 652 and our service was outstanding with Redempto and Gabby. We had the opposite experience in the Posh. Slow and terrible service.
The food was not the best and the menu seemed to be similar to a Carnival cruise we were on a couple years ago.
Ports of Call- I agree with another reviewer who suggested that Carnival consider taking La' Romana, Dominican Republic off the list of ports. It is not safe as evidenced by the number of police and guards with guns around that market area. We were told in a ship briefing that the stores in town close at 6PM because it was not safe for high end stores to be open after that time. Now what does that say to your passengers?
Loved Aruba and Grand Turk.
Entertainment and Activities: the absolute best entertainment during the week was the performance by Marcus Anthony on September 24 - wonderful show!
Activity wise - this ship had more Trivia than real activities.
Disembarkation- excellent, with Carnival totally in charge and controlling the crowd distribution.
