This is a fairley long review!
We flew to Barcelona from UK. Embarkation was excellent, we took swimwear so we could enjoy the ships facilities straight away. The Serenity is amazing! To have have such quality sunbeds and furniture, (AND adults only!!!) all included in the price was real bonus. This was our 17th cruise in the 9 years but our first experience with Carnival. We had followed the ships refit on line and were keen to try Carnival on a "new" ship. When we got to the cabin (inside) we found there was no refrigerator and no beside cabinets, surely basic needs on any cruise? I went to reception to ask about upgrading but they said the ship was full, I was told many of the cabins don't have refrigerators and asked why I needed one! The crew member on guest relations was not particularly nice or helpful.
We discovered that as our room was the very last one on the corridor it was next to the big dood that crew use to come and go to their cabins etc. The crew all took a delight in banging this door at all hours and we had a lousy night's sleep. I went to guest relations the next morning and got a very helpful staff member, Olga, and I said I knew the ship was full but could they put a note on the crew door or make it bang less, she apologised about the noise and said she would try to have the door looked at and she also called housekeeping to see if they could sort out bedside cabinets. To cut a long story short we got a bedside cabinet that day and he next day Olga had put a note through our door saying she had managed to get us a different cabin now. When we went to see it, it had a refrigerator and 2 bedside cabinets, whoopee!
Although a much bigger and better cabin there were a couple of issues, the drains smelled, we had to buy air fresherners, and most mornings there was NO hot water. After several trips to guest relations, nothing was done about either.
The swimming pools were freezing cold.
As we had been to the med several times we stayed on the ship many days or just went off for a couple of hours, the ship was almost empty most days so we enjoyed any sunloungers we wanted up in Serenity, no food queues, and great service.
Guy's burgers - Oh my God, they are amazing, and the fries are to die for!
Blue Iguana cantina - Mexican is not our thing so didn't try.
Buffet - not big on choice, but great food, the chicken tenders are awesome!
Pizzas - Fantastic hot pizzas 24 hours a day!
Taste Bar - great idea for samples
JiJi's - Great value at $12 and superb food didn't like being told we were ordering too much.
Cucino del Capitano - again great value at $12, superb food and service
Sunrise restaurant - the worst service ever on any cruise ship, the Maitre D was more concerned with singing and having the waiters dance and sing than providing service. Small portions of uninspiring food, regularly sent back as cold. We stopped going in after a few nights it was so bad.
Bar service - brilliant at just about every bar.
Entertainment - Loved the Liquid lounge, great felxability, and great to keep folks in with dance parties after the shows. The shows were great, especially Epic Rock, and good singers and dancers.
Entertainers over all were very good - Loved the Piano Bar with Seth, he is great.
Robbie Lit was brilliant everywhere but especially in the Piano bar. Sky ??? was ok but a bit repetetive. The latin band were good but didn't see much of them, the Havan bar always seemd empty. The house band were really good too especially the guitarist.
The guest entaertainers were ok, but nothing special. Cruise Director Noonan did a great job.
Overall we had a great vacation and didn't let the issues we had spoil it. Would we go back to carnival again? Hell yeah!
