We booked a fly cruise with celebrity flying from Manchester airport with jet2. When we arrived in Rome we were met by a celebrity rep and told where to leave our cases. We quickly boarded the transfer bus and were on the ship about one hour later. Celebrity have things very well organised.
This is our fourth celebrity cruise and on previous ones we were greeted with a glass of champagne, however on this ship drinks are served outside the ocean view cafe on deck 14. We think that spoils the welcome a little. We had lunch in the Oceanview cafe, it was ok noting to write home about. Usual pasta, salad, stir fry etc you find on most ship self service restaurants. There was plenty of space to sit and the staff are very friendly and efficient.
Lifeboat drill was held at various locations on the ship and consisted of watching a film presentation.
We opted for an aquaclass cabin 1620 on deck 11. The location could not have been better, however, the cabin felt very much smaller than the constellation and equinox we had previously sailed on. When spoke to some staff members they confirmed that the cabins were smaller in order to accommodate additional staterooms. There is not much drawer space and we had to use the space above the bed which was a little awkward. We had a larger than usual balcony as the cabin was on the hump of the ship. The bathroom is a nice size and the shower is good.
Ports of call were excellent and we took several excursions which we had arranged ourselves. We would recommend piraeus express for Athens and cruising excursions.com for the other ports of call. Don,t miss Ephesus, acropolis and Pompeii , they are fantastic.
The ship is still new and everything is kept spotlessly clean. The nightly shows are also very good and we enjoyed all of them.
We booked aquaclass having read previous reviews about dining in Blu and how great it was. Regrettably we did not find this to be the case. It tries too hard to be different with its food and very often misses the mark with very strange food combinations. Many nights we just ordered the salmon or the chicken. Perhaps it was just that we have simple tastes but I saw many others choosing the plain nightly alternatives. The other problem is that if you choose to dine between about 8 and 9 pm you can sometimes wait about 30 minutes for a table. This is not the fault of the excellent restaurant managers Arthur and Thomaz and all the wait staff. The problem is that they have added extra aquaclass cabins without enlarging the capacity of Blu.
In general, we had an enjoyable experience but would we choose aquaclass again, I doubt it. It is not worth the extra money and I think we would rather have used the main dining room than Blu.
