We spent 12 nights on Ventura at the end of a very tough year. My husband was diagnosed with cancer last December and had major surgery followed by 6 months of chemotherapy. This crusie was a well deserved rest for us both and a chance to wave goodbye to the past year.
We stayed in cabin D207 and only booked 6 weeks before sailing. This was a guarantee cabin and although quite near the front of the ship, we loved it. The cabin was spacious with a lounge area and a lovely balcony. Yes the balcony was completely overlooked but this also meant it was perfect for sunbathing! My husband was on board for his birthday andi had arranged for a champagne breakfast in bed which was wonderful and made for a very special start to his day. This came with a half bottle of Lanson, a plate of fruit, cheese, cold meats, pastries, fruit juice, coffee. Far too much for two of us but stored in our fridge, we muches our way through it later on. I also ordered a birthday cake for the evening and this was lovely.
We chose the timed dining at 8.30pm which suited us well. We could get ready at our leisure and if we were ready early we would go to Metropolis for a pre dinner cocktail. We dined in Saffron Restaurent. Our waiters were superb and could not have done more for us. We chose a table of 6 and we shared it with two other couples. We all got along well.
There was always lots to do on board and you could not get bored on this ship. My only complaint was trying to get a sunbed particularly on sea days. This is where we hugely benefited from having a lovely cabin and our own balcony.
We dined in all three fine dining restaurants. The White room was wonderful. Great food and lovely service. East was also great food and service. The Glass house was superb and the wines and food lovely. Would recommend all three venues.
Formal evening were nice and the majority of people really made a big effort with their outfits.
The on board shows by the Headliners were amazing and they were a real credit to not only themselves but also P&O.
All in all we had a wonderful 12 nights on Ventura and would definitely cruise with P&O again. It was just the type of break we neeeed. Didn't think much of the canaries but loved Madeira and Lisbon.
