We have never booked a holiday so far in advance as we did with this cruise from Budapest to Nuremburg. The numerous lavish television advertisements gave us the expectation of great things to come but in some ways it flattered to deceive. The various city tours were reasonable but too much of it consisted of a bus tour with the guide pointing out points of interest. In a place like Vienna with so many such places, justice to it was not done. Part of the visit was a walking tour which was good very informative but wasn't long enough. The tour of Budapest on the first full day was too early in the morning (8.00am) following the journey to Budapest which for many had started at 3.00am or 4.00 am the previous day.

However the biggest disappointment was the fact that the upper deck was closed for most of the trip and what is more, was never going to be open on that particular cruise due to the numerous low bridges.

The dining room was adequate only if you got there early enough. We enjoyed being with different people for most meals but there were many examples of the same parties wishing to "save the seat for our friends". The Aquavit lounge was far too small and the food available didn't display much variety. However the choice of wines was quite good and the speed at which our glass was regularly replenished was excellent.

Cabin Review

The stateroom (something of a misnomer) was small with no balcony. However, the bed was comfortable and with the sliding window open fully, offerred an unusual view of the nearby river !!
