My husband and I have cruised before but first time with Celebrity. Would definitely recommend Celebrity and Canada and New England. All excellent apart from two aspects of the cruise which let the cruise line down.
Firstly the positives. Excellent staff, organisation and ports. Tendering was very efficient, always informed staff at ports to assist you.
Entertainment was excellent, a Cirque du Soleil act called Bande Artistique were absolutely hilarious, so professional. If you have the opportunity to see them they are a must. Also a comedienne Buzz Sutherland was brilliant.
A major strength of Celebrity is their staff, simply wonderful.
Weather was kind to us but the one day of heavy rain, staff did everything to help.
Now for the two negatives. Firstly embarkation for us was infuriating. As first time cruisers with Celebrity we were kept waiting three hours to board whilst elite members just walked straight on. Despite being from the UK and having travelled a long distance we were kept almost to the end. We totally agree that Celebrity would want to reward their frequent customers but not to the detriment of new customers. Not a good first impression.
Secondly as our return flight to the UK was in the evening, the only tour available to us was New York Harbour and 9/11 Memorial Tour. What a rip off! 99 dollars each for essentially was a quick glance at the Statue of Liberty and a few other mentions. The guide informed us that we would all have to be quick as one couple had a flight mid afternoon so we would all have to be at the Airport for one o,clock. This was supposed to be a half day tour. Complete waste of money. We were hurried through the streets of New York despite quite a few people on the tour having walking difficulties. So lucky we did not lose anyone. We then visited the Memorial site then back onto the bus to the airport. Our flight was 7.45 p.m. we would not recommend this tour, we understand some travel agents offer a half day in an airport hotel, we were not, but this possibly would be a better option.
