Our 5th Princess cruise started with 3 days in Seattle. About wore ourselves out seeing the sites of the city. 6 of our 14 person group came in early to celebrate our 50th class reunion from high school. We played super tourists. Hit the space needle for dinner. (Bring lots of money!) Rode the big ferris wheel and visited Pike Street market. Did the underground Seattle tour and took the duck ride and tour.Found a terrific place to eat a couple of blocks from the Quality Inn that we stayed in. Place is 5 Point Cafe. Open 24/7.Good home made meals at a good price.
On Sunday morning we took the hotel shuttle to Pier 91. It was the typical embarkation.Checkin was quick and easy. Then the waiting in line until it was time to board.Found our room with no problem. This was our 4th cruise on a Grand class ship.Dumped our carryons and headed out to eat. Discovered that one of the sit down restaurants was open on deck 6. So no buffet! We would eat breakfast and lunch most days there. There were a couple of days where we were forced to eat in the buffet. Even one night when Donetello was closed we had to buffet. Food Buffet was typical. Nothing special. Sit down dinners were super. Had the fetticine alfredo for 2 different meals. Wonderful!
Overall the ship was in good shape. Sure there are dents and scatches. Found a couch with a ragged arm. But hey. It is a working ship. Did have a problem with the flush in the room. Took a couple of times but they got it fixed.
Went to most of the shows. Alexander Great was a good magican. And Rodney Johnson was a very funny guy. Saw his show twice in a row.Motor city and British Invasion had been changed up some. But still getting a little long in the tooth.
One thing to remember when going to Alaska in September. Bring rain gear. Because it is going to rain! This is our second cruise there in September and it rained almost everyday both times. And a good pair of hiking shoes or boots is a must. Unfortunely mine came apart this time. Guess it`s time for them to retire.
We didn`t do any tours ourselves. But members of the group took the Whitepass train. Had a super time. We walked around the towns. Had a drink in the Red dog Saloon in Juneau.
Had a great time visiting with old friends from high and revisiting the beautiful state of Alaska. Princess ships are beautiful and we will continue to sail on them. If you get a chance hop on one and enjoy life.
