Unhappy with Our 1rst Princess Cruise

Sail Date: September 2013
Destination: Alaska
Embarkation: Seattle

I guess we have been spoiled by our numerous Disney Cruises because we feel that this Star Princess Alaska voyage was a downer, by comparison. We fully understand that due to a storm our day in Ketchikan was cancelled. We do not understand why we were also denied a stop in Victoria or Vancouver, however. No storm there. We felt very unnecessarily trapped & bored on the Star for 4 consecutive days.

Pros: all staff on ship were excellent. Very kind & willing to help. Embarkation was a breeze. Food was plentiful with very fancy names on menu or tag, but was most definitely not as tasty as Disney Cruise Lines food. Entertainment on the Star was plentiful, with stage performers adequate, but shows didn't have a story line like Disney's do, (just random dancing & singing with a bit of lip-sync on the side?) A few things better than Disney's were the covered/indoor pool, the 24 hr coffee shop, the roomier Internet facilities and the availability of Minisuite staterooms. More

Cons: although we appreciate the Captain getting us safely away from the storm in Alaska, we feel we didn't get our money's worth on this cruise due to only having 2 port days on a 7 day cruise. We see no reason why we couldn't have been allowed the scheduled port day in storm-free Vancouver or Victoria. We also had our scheduled "Ultimate Ship Tour" cancelled out-from-underneath-us. No reason they couldn't have followed through with that during our 4 days of boredom. After that, we made a point of not spending any of the money on board, which we would have spent in Canada. Disembarkation was a hurry-up-and-wait affair. Need signs by elevators saying Forward, Midship or Aft. Need trash cans available in public areas, please. (I know the lack of them is a British safety "thing", but I still want them available.)

Unfortunately, I have to mention that many of our meals went uneaten because what we ordered in the dining room, thru room service or picked out from the buffet turned out to be not worth the trouble of eating. Tasteless is the operative word. Plentiful choices & prettily displayed but just no flavor. How did they manage to extract flavors? Less

Cabin review: Star Princess Mini-Suite with Balcony Dolphin Deck D228

D228: pros: bed did have a comfy mattress pad. Very roomy room! cons: sofa was abominably uncomfortable. No roof/covering on deck.

Port and Shore Excursions

Whales, Bears and Glaciers

(4)

No bears around in September. Please warn passengers that they will be taking a risk, spending big bucks to see no bears.

Whales did show up! Flight-seeing of glaciers was great!

Wildlife Tour

(5)

Steve Kroshel's park was beyond amazingly cool. Intense amount of animal interaction for guests!
