the good the bad the ugly

Sail Date: September 2013
Destination: South Pacific
Embarkation: Sydney (Australia)

we have just returned from carnival spirit on 15th sept my wife and i travelled with another couple who have cruised many many times this was my 3rd and my wifes 2nd cruise . firstly the embarkation was very good checked our bags girls had a quick smoke and then it was time to get onboard this took about 15 mins awesome . once onboard we went to our cabin (oceanview deck 1 ) and found it to be very sufficient for our needs ( we had a JS on our last cruise )our room steward jose very attentive to everything we asked of him my wife had problems with the hardness of the mattress he fixed it no problems.

THE BAD.... buffet food very boring and hardly changed all trip , far too many kids free to roam and sit at bars and smoking area's etc , 1st 2 days hardly any waiter service in pool area's ,our girls are smokers so if we wanted to be in serenity area they had to go up 1 or 2 decks and forward to smoke , on deck 9 pool area is smoking and was filled with kids because thats where More their parents were not good kids sitting eating breakfast etc with about 200 smokers other non smoking pool area had the roof closed and the noise from the kids was unbelievable . my mate and i decided we would drink at the spirit atrium bar deck 2 to escape all this but to our amazement kids sat at the bar with us getting the soda cups filled all the time also the area in front of the bar is about 4m x 7m and this is where they held the golf chipping comp and towel folding demo and photo's with the captain on formal night we had to leave at these times as you couldn't move . The shows were a little disappointing hypnotist was good but very slow process, magician was poor other shows average. Drink prices were outrageous but we planned for that $8.25 for a stubbie of beer (carlton dry ) is a bit extreme, cocktails were average about $9.50 to $10.50.

THE GOOD..... our cabin and cabin steward jose was great, our bar staff in atrium ( knee,mj,gede and marilyn ) were fantastic ,empire room dining food was awesome 1st class and wait staff ( stan or squeaky as we called him , igusti and jose ) were great igusti chose my meals for me and was spot on everytime . entertainment at dinner was awesome aswell , people we met onboard were all awesome you guys know who you are thanks for sharing our trip, green thunder was great ( the slide and cocktail ) , the way the ship rode was good hardly any movement at all ,duty free alcohol and smoke prices all very cheap onboard, adult only comedy shows were great

THE UGLY..... the weather (can't blame anyone for that ),lifou having to pay to snorkel, isle of pines getting asked to pay $5 to use the toilet and $11 for a beer , kids in the casino at night, the sports bar which only showed a replay of last years afl grand final ,epl highlights or very very old cricket replays they did show AFL live i think towards the end of the cruise but we are rugby league people so didn't interest us,lack of smiling or any wait staff on pool deck, the CD stu boring , captain who hardly spoke english and was very boring in whatever he was trying to say, did i mention kids anywhere ? .

all in all we had a good time but only because we are fun people and have a good time wherever we go would we cruise with carnival again ? NO we'll stick with royal carribean thanks , but please go and make up your own mind this is only mine and the people i sailed with's opinion Less
