Hi! We had a great time on the Carnival Splendor - sail date: 9/7/2013. A little background info about myself and my traveling companion: I am a single woman, age 51 and I was traveling with my sister-in-law who is 70. We are native New Yorkers. I am Gold in the VIFP club and my sister-in-law is red. We have previously traveled VIP but this time we had an inside cabin. No worries however with embarkation. Despite the huge crowd that was at the terminal, all lines moved very swiftly and check in was completed within, I would say, about 30 minutes total. There was some sort of testing going on at the terminal that day, so we were advised not to arrive before 1pm that day. I think we had gotten there just a little before that time, and, while crowded, everything was orderly. Our luggage arrived very quickly, about 2:30 pm I believe. We were able to get a great start unpacking and had most of it done before muster drill, which went very smoothly. Our stateroom was an inside stateroom, category 4F and was surprisingly spacious and well laid out. We did not feel tight in there at all. Bathroom was well laid out and had a great shower. Plenty of closet space for two people. We had lots of room left over. Our stewardess Ni was great and she took care of everything we needed. Overall the food was great. We ate at the Pinnacle Steakhouse the first night - everything was superb. The complimentary bottle of wine received for dining there on embarkation night was also great and we enjoyed it.

Food in the main dining room was very good with one or two minor exceptions.Service, however was erratic and could use some improvement. For example, one should not have to ask for coffee with desert - it should be offered to you. One of my table mates had food spilled on him not once but twice! Little things like that. We were pleased with the overall experience and would not let little things like that upset us. As an FYI - we had wanted Your Time dining but wound up with late seating, which actually worked out well as we wound up with excellent table mates. Ports - we have visited all 3 ports on previous cruises and so decided to stay on the ship this time around. We loved being able to use the pools when most of the people went ashore on port days. It was impossible to use the pools on sea days. There are only 2 pools on this huge ship and both were packed to the gills on sea days! Crowding was a problem on this larger vessel. Too many people for my taste - I prefer the Miracle for the smaller size and better layout. Entertainment - I only saw the juggler and was not impressed so I decided not to go to any more shows. Carnival can use some improvement when it comes to entertainment. I also felt there should be more indoor activities offered. I was slight bored this time around which has never happened before. Disembarkation was the only real sore spot of this cruise and was a nightmare. Four ships disembarking on the same day was too much for this port to handle. Processing through customs was not too bad but trying to get a taxi once outside was a feat for a magician! We had to go outside the terminal and across the street to the taxi stand which was of course overrun with people all looking for a taxi. Overall we really enjoyed the cruise and would not hesitate to sail the Splendor again!
