We have just returned from our AMAZING cruise on the beautiful Norwegian Spirit.
We embarked in the stunning city of Venice. Getting to the ship from the airport was actually quite easy. We got an ATVO bus to the pizzalle Roma (6, I think) then from there we got the people mover to the port. This was one euro and you really couldn't miss where to get it. At the port there was a NCL rep present to direct you to a complimentary shuttle bus (or you could just walk 10 minutes to the ship). Our inside cabin was on a low floor (4493) but was in a fantastic location for getting on and off the ship. It was really quiet we were actually surprised at how spacious it was with a grand sized bathroom equipped with a hair dryer. Mark our cabin attendant was brilliant.
The ship itself is beautiful. We have cruised with bigger ships before such as celebrity solstice but this ship seemed more intimate and very classy with mainly Asian decor. The promenade wraps around the whole ship which I thought was a nice touch. The gym is small but very well equipped and the pool and 4 hot tubs were never too crowded. In fact, we had a completely fully booked ship but it never seemed crowded. We always got sun loungers and seats in the restaurant.
No on to the really important stuff! The food! In short the food is fantastic. So fantastic that we never felt the need to go to any of the speciality dinning venues. Ncl must be really taking note of customer reviews because the food in Raffles buffet changed daily and always had so much to choose from. In the main dinning rooms Windows and Garden the right hand side of the menue had classics such as steak, pasta etc which never changed but the left hand side had about 4 different choices that changed daily. Also our meals were always hot. By the way, the Ncl signature cheesecake is to die for! There is a 24 hour cafe that makes food to order such as buffulo wings (yum, yum), burgers, panini's etc. Ncl cookies are absolutely gorgeous also.
Dress code was very mixed Raffles was casual, garden was in the middle and in windows most people tended to be more dressed up but you could really wear what you like. We personally LOVED the freestyle dinning as it really gave us the freedom to do what we wanted rather than planning our entire day around our meals.
The entertainment was good. the juggler/comedian was very funny and the magic show was very good. Also the end of cruise show was the best we've ever seen and elements was very good. Overall though the on-board entertainers were not as polished when compared with previous cruises we have done. But as I said we did enjoy the shows.
The staff are amazing. They seem so relaxed and genuinely happy. They joke with each other and still offer fantastic service. The washy, washy staff are so funny and always made us smile. Also Gloria is a great singer and should be on stage! Captain Lars is very funny and I personally lover Officer Armando (head of hotel operations) he is incredibly funny.
We had the best cruise we could have had and we would sail with NCL again in a heartbeat!!!
Very informative and enjoyable.
This was an excellent tour and fantastic value for money. Although it was Pisa and Florence on your own you get a map and all the history of the main attractions before your guide leaves you. Also Florence is very compact so it is very easy to walk around.
We did Istanbul on our own. It was very easy to find the blue mosque and once you've found that all the other sights were right beside it. We walked (about 40/45 minutes) from our ship by following the tram lines. Trams are very frequent and leave you directly at the mosque if your not into walking. Istanbul is truly beautiful.
As we had already been to Naples and Pompeii we decided to go to Sorrento or Capri. The ferry terminal (molo berevello)is actually visible from your ship. It is just left of the cruise terminal. You can buy tickets easily there. We just missed the 9:50 boat to Sorrent so we got the 10:05 ferry to Capri instead. It was incredibly beautiful and so easy to do ourselves. In fact it would be very easy to spend a few hours in Capri and then get a ferry from there to Sorrento before getting a ferry back to Naples.
