NCL Jewel Alaska Aug 31
What we were disappointed with was the quality of the food on the boat. The dining room quality has gone down a great deal. The service in the main dining rooms was also not good. One waiter was as bad as the next. This is quite a change from prior cruises we have taken with NCL.
In addition, Le Bistro has also gone down in quality. We were disappointed that they have changed the menu and the chef needs to take some lessons in preparation. We did not go to the specialty restaurants as we had in the past - when the buffet is the best bet you have a problem with your kitchen! More
The entertainment was spectacular - the regular ast goes overboard and does a great job. Less

Port and Shore Excursions
We did the "Pilot's Choice" tour which meant we did 2 landings on the glacier. Our pilot, George, was very good. Our stops and walks on the glaciers gave us an opportunity to walk around see some amazing sights, actually have an opportunity to drink water that had melted in small pools from the glacier and witness some of the "activity" that takes place in the overall texture of the glacier.
My best recommendation for this trip is to bring walking sticks as it is very uneven surface and can be slippery.
The views during the chopper ride were magnificent and will remain in the "mind's eye" forever.
As an avid "water person" and I have snorkeled in many places I thought this would be unique. I was not disappointed. We were lucky to have a beautiful sunny day - the water temp was in the 60's. We were suited up in very heavy wet suits and off we went to the water's edge. I had no idea what to expect to see - very few fish - the starfish were magnificent. The staff engaged you the whole time and were very helpful throughout the trip.
White Pass Scenic Railway
This was the 3 hour train ride - round trip to the White Hall Pass. We were a little disappointed in the actual train as we thought it was going to be a restored steam locomotive and would go right along the cliff. Perhaps if we had done more "homework" we would have realized the difference - our fault.
The scenery was very nice - a lot of foliage, small waterfalls and scenic vistas. It was good to hear the story of the railroad and understand the process and reasons for building the railroad. Weather, of course can be a factor that impacts all trips and our issue was the fog. This came and went at different points during the trip.
The town itself is (to me) a typical port town - a lot of small shops that you see in every port. The fish and chips and smoked salmon at the Brewery were great.
Started rocky, but became grea...
I have NO complaints and LOTS ...
A fabulous Alaska cruise
