Registration at Barcelona was effortless. The staff were very efficient and we were onboard within 15 mins.
On entering our cabin we were astonished to find an opaque toilet cubicle on the left and on the right an opaque shower cabinet!! Separating these from the main cabin area was a sliding curtain. A sink and a mirrored cupboard was also in the main area, unfortunately this was a bit of a dark area, although there was a light, this was of little use when trying to have a shave!
The main wardrobe was a substantial area, which held my wife's clothes. The "smaller" wardrobe with three drawers was less than 12 inches deep. Shirts or T-shirts had to be folded twice, to fit into the drawers. NCL should look at remedying this!! Our friends were in cabin 11312, which was slightly better.
We breakfasted in the Garden Room and had dinner in the Manhattan. Food was of a good quality and the service in both of these was also good. More than can be said of some of the passengers, who barged in for food, treating the staff like second-class citizens!! On numerous occasions I witnessed passengers handling food and then setting it down, for the next unsuspecting passenger to put it on their plate? The staff tried to discourage this, but must have the patience of saints. At the 'drinks' station outside the Garden Room children were allowed to play with the dispensers, filling and then emptying the drinks into the drip trays, all this while parents looked on. When this was reported to a female supervisor, all she did was to assist the child in filling yet another glass?
Excursions: These were grossly overpriced. I would recommend that you "do your own thing", book a trip with one of the on-line companies, or use the "local" buses.
Shows: Very poor selection of shows. "Legends" was the best and most entertaining. Having to book was different. Never had to do that last year with Celebrity.
The Epic may well be the biggest and best of the NCL fleet, but a lot of the areas were dark and dismal, almost bordering on claustrophobic. Overall we did enjoy the cruise. But will not cruise with NCL again.
Notre Dame de la Grande Took a trip on the local train/bus, it was great and cost a fraction of the cruiseline price. Was impressed with the running commentary.
Well worth the visit. The architecture and artifects were almost as if they were constructed yesterday.
Walking round the port of Civitavecchia was a nice experience. Shops were well presented and clean. People are friendly.
