We used to alternate between Norwegian and Carnival. but ceased to so so after our last Norwegian cruise convinced me that they are all about nickel diming one to death. There were a couple of things about this cruise that raise my eyebrows concerning where carnival is going. I am going to lead off with those observations, but that does not mean they dominate my thinking of the cruise:
NO ICE IN STATEROOMS: ZERO STARS
This deletion of something previously done is not acceptable.
PEARL DINING ROOM / SPEED OF SERVICE: 2 STARS
This happened twice, different nights, different teams. Very troubling. Huge ridiculous waits after ordering entrees, like crazy long. There appear to have been some behind the scenes staff reductions.
Now that that is out of the way.......
COMEDY BRUNCH : 4 STARS
The comedy could be a little longer, but the main thing is the food. the huevos rancheros and the filet and eggs are excellent.
Both these come with a selection of spicy sauces, well every day but one they did. The vinegary one was particularly good.
PIZZA: 2 STARS
There ought to be a ton of pepperoni slices ready to fly in circular glass hot cases. This business about the pizza being done a la carte is ridiculous. it is just so so bar pizza, below par. It is the only food available 24 / 7, and often there is no one at the counter, they hide in the kitchen.
There ought to be more choices of pizza, there ought to be more pepperoni on the slices, they ought to crank out tons at peak times in advance.
BURGERS: 2.5 STARS
The Carnival 2.0 Guy burgers are infinetly superior.
MONGOLIAN WOK: 2.5 STARS
It is not open enough. The lines are horrendous. The food is good, once you get it.
LIDO SALADS: 4 STARS
Always fresh, great selection, they take pride in this, and it shows.
LIDO SELECTION: 2.75 STARS
Could do with more.
ICE WATER DISPENSE SPEED: 1 STAR
It is like slow death.
CONSTANT AVAILABILITY OF LEMONADE: 3.5 STARS
TANDOOR INDIAN: 4 STARS
Excellent. Lines get long because people get frustrated with burger and pizza lines, which is unfortunate for those of us who actually like Indian food.
DRINK PRICES: 1 STAR
SHIP CLEANLINESS: 4.25 STARS
MACHINE BY CASINO THAT LOOPS THE SAME 6 SONGS: ZERO STARS
AVAILABILITY OF $6 BLACKJACK: 4 STARS
Three maybe four tables open at a time.
PORT, GRAND TURK, MARGARITAVILLE BAR: ZERO STARS
Carnival does not won this establishment, but a tiny vodka and soda came out Grey Goose allegedly and unrequested, for $ 9.25
PORT, GRAND TURK, BEACH NEXT TO SHIP: 2.5 STARS
Free beach chairs, nice sand, horribly rocky once in the water.
PORT, ST JOHNS, NATIONAL PARK TOUR: 3.5 STARS
Saw many awesome national park beaches, hope to return and try.
LOBBY GUITARIST: 3.75 STARS
Talented guy, somewhat miserable though.
CASINO STAFF: 3 STARS
Some with character, a few that look as if they want to end thier lives right there right then.
ON BOARD MAIN STORE: 2.5 STARS
Discontinued the two themes of tee shirt I buy on every ship, black shirt with fireworks, shirt with all the tech data about the ship on it. Gained alot of idiotic polo stuff instead.
FOOD, DINING ROOM DINNER: 3.75 STARS
When it came, which it more or less did not twice, it was good. The soups are excellent. The staff is polite and professional.
FELLOW PASSENGERS, MIX: ( Stars not relevant )
This is a big time New York / New Jersey crowd, and a celebration of diversity. It is not like going out of Miami at all.
PORT STAFF, MANHATTAN: 2 STARS
Not the Carnival folks at embarkation and debarkation, they did fine. The terminal is under construction and those involved with the closed ramp etc were rude, on both ends.
So we had a good time, got beaten like rented mules in the casino, but all in all the Breeze and 2.0 have it all over this experience.
