Disappointed in service
We had sailed RC in the past, and have received superb service in the MDR on their ships. We were expecting on the Solstice, at the very least, the same level of service as we had received from RC. We were in Aqua Class (A1), and found the Solstice to be very well appointed and absolutely gorgeous. The Aqua Class rooms were also very well appointed and quite spacious. The first night in the MDR our waiter and ass't. waiter were acceptable. Not great, just acceptable. The sommelier stayed almost invisible and we had to complain for him to pour a second glass of wine. The first formal night was completely subpar. It took a very long time for our order to be taken, and we had yet to place our wine order. We had to request several times for the sommelier to come to our table. Ass't waiter was not allowed to serve us wine.
Side note: On RC, we were absolutely treated like royalty in the MDR's. Ass't. waitstaff were extremely attentive to our every need and want.
We ate More breakfast in BLU most mornings, and the service as well as the food in there was very nice. Ate supper in BLU once and the service was very slow (1/2 hour between courses)and our food came out cold.
2nd formal night in the MDR was better but certainly not excellent.
The food itself was acceptable. Nothing was really noteworthy or had a "wow" factor. Food in the buffet as equally as forgettable. Typical buffet fare.
Although the Solstice was beautiful and grand, the dining service was on the opposite end of the spectrum. I am asking myself, "what is more important to me? A beautiful ship with lousy service or a pretty nice ship that treats me like royalty in the MDR?" Celebrity touts their superb service, but I think they need to step it up quite a few notches to even be comparable to RC. Less
