Embarkation. Scheduled for 1:30 PM. Son and daughter in law delayed till 1:45 PM. By that time, no lines check in and on ship in 10 minutes. Hold up was the photo for your cruise card as you board the ship. Need more people with cameras.
Cabin booked as run of ship with fully obstructed view. Cabin was upgraded to center of ship with partially obstructed view E 407. Son and daughter in law were given E415. DO NOT EVER TAKE this cabin. It was directly above piano in bar on deck 7. They piano player was awful and played poorly and loudly till after midnight. Unfortunately my son was promised that the playing would stop by 11:30 pm, passenger services failed to have this accomplished. Perhaps because most of the folks at the desk spoke some English but had a hard time understanding complex issues. It took until the last night of the cruise for someone to come to the cabin and listen.
That being said, it was a great cruise.
We had second seating in Canelleto Dining room. Our server Dominique and her assistant Caslev were wonderful. Her recommendations were spot on. Had beef three nights and it was excellent and cooked to our specifications perfectly. People have complained about the food being bland. You can add salt and pepper to taste, or ask for hot sauce etc. With so many old goats like me you have to keep the food bland. There was a limited choice each night, plus always a standard available. Second seating started at 7:45 pm which got us out a little after 9 PM each night. This was perfect.
Ketchikan, weather was intermittent showers and sun. This was our third time in Ketchikan so we just did the Duck Tour. It was informative and a lot of fun.
Juneau, Weather was sunny. 3rd trip to Juneau. Tour rainforest gardens and Mendenhall glacier. Perfec weather therefore perfect tour.
Skagway, weather sunny. Walked around in shirt sleeves. Tour jewell gardens, glass blowing and tea. All took place at the gardens. Glassblowing demonstration was the best I have ever seen. We comissioned a bowl to be made for us. Price was reasonable, the pieces were beautiful.
Cruiseing Tracy arm fjord was enjoyable the weather was beautiful.
Victoria, weather was perfect but with 3 other ships in it was wall to wall people.
Disembarkation: 10 minutes off the ship and through customs. Back at house in another 20 minutes. Perfect end.
The Ship: Previous comments complained about how run down the ship was etc. I have been on many cruises, the ship was in fine shape for its age. Crew was always working to spruce it up. They were replacing wall paper/contact paper in the hallway near our cabin. It looked good to begin with, great after they finished.
Cabin Steward Pepito did a fine job with the cabin.
Crew: 99.9% wonderful. 0.01% people should be in another line of work. I observed some folks who were totally disdainful of the passengers.
Biggest Complaint: The price of the cruise was so low that every employee is trying to upsell you something. I ordered a drink question was do you want a double? Spa rates are exhorbitant and they try and sell you unproven garbage for unreasonable prices. My daughter in law was told during her massage that she had too much stress, needed some seaweed at $279.00 to help her relax otherwise she would have trouble getting pregnant. That was a load to total Bravo Sierra.
Overall, the ship was in much better shape than several people have written, this is in my opinion. Being with my family and having great weather made the trip so enjoyable.
