Azamara excels again

Sail Date: August 2013
Destination: Other
Embarkation: Istanbul

We could not be more positive about this "Circumnavigating the Black Sea" cruise. The only negatives were in the boarding and disembarking processes, not caused by Azamara, but by Turkish port and airport personnel.

Our first time flying Turkish Airlines was very positive--good food, comfortable seats (Economy), and nice service.

Once on board, this proved to be one of the best Azamara cruises we have taken and we have loved each one of six. Some of the ports are not used to tourism (Novorossisk, in particular), but Azamara provided the best excursions possible. Our favorite ports were Batumi, Georgia; Odessa, Ukraine; and Nessebar, Bulgaria. Each was fascinating. We took ship excursions everywhere but Sochi where we hired a private guide to take us to all the Olympic sites.

The food on ship is better than ever. Every meal was excellent. The Turkish buffet one evening was beyond perfection. Our V2 cabin was comfortable and maintained beautifully by Alexis. More We had breakfast every day on our verandah and appreciated the room service wake up call to let us know breakfast was on the way.

The passengers were the friendliest we have ever encountered. We met lovely people and made true friends. There was high interest in all the games on board. Trivia was packed each day as were darts, virtual bowling, and other games. We did not go to many shows, but the Azamara singers and dancers who did the Broadway show were excellent. CD Tony Markey did a wonderful job throughout the cruise as did Rizhard, the Hotel Director, who was everywhere making sure passengers were well taken care of. Enrichment lectures were excellent (gave an overview of each port, history, people) and well-attended.

Our first Azamazing Evening was incredibly well-organized. Yalta's Massandra winery put on a fabulous show with wonderful wines and snacks. Everyone enjoyed the evening.

We enjoyed everything and learned so much on this voyage. Now, on to our next Azamara cruise next summer--Copenhagen to Copenhagen heading to Iceland. Azamara remains our favorite cruise line. Less
