Adventure of the Seas 14 Night Italian Mediterranean
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Check in - Quick and easy, we were through security, check in and onboard within 20 minutes.
Ship - Was a little tired but the ship is having a refurbishment early 2014.
Food - Excellent choices in the Windjammer, beautiful food in the Main Dining Room and the service from the staff is second to none. Portofinos was an additional $20 per person and worth every penny, the equivalent to a 2 Michelin Star at sea in my opinion.
Bars - There are bars to suit the needs of everyone, lively, quiet, child friendly.
Swimming Pools - As with all hotels and cruise liners, there are not enough sunbeds for the passengers on board and staff did not enforce the half an hour sunbed rule which needs to be addressed.
Activities for Children - Our daughter is 9 and there More was more than enough for her to do, a lot of the facilities she was able to use on her own as and when she wanted.
Activities for Toddlers - The only problem we encountered was the lack of activities for the under 3's. Our son had just turned 2 when we went on the cruise. There was a play room down in the deepest, darkest depths of deck 2 which was full of wonderful Fisher Price toys. There was also a playgroup member of staff in the morning to interact with the children. The swimming pools do not permit children in swim nappies, they must be toilet trained. I would not take a child under 3 onto this cruise knowing what I do now. The staff however made a real fuss of both children and could not be faulted.
All in all a fantastic two week holiday and we will definitely be going again. Less
Port and Shore Excursions
We got off the ship and tried to find a reasonable tour to Pisa but were quoted approximately 500 euros for any type of trip whether it be a bus, taxi or coach. The train station was a good hours walk away from where the port buses dropped us off.
We took an open top bus tour around the city from just outside the port. I was unhappy that we were told the buses ran every ten minutes when we paid but we had to wait half an hour, however the tour was very nice and covered a lot of the city which would be impossible to walk.
Rock of Gibraltar
Not for passengers who are nervous of heights, monkeys or other peoples driving! It was an experience, but one I will not be repeating with small children.
Walked around the city, was our least favourite destination of the cruise.
We walked around the city, nice to soak up the sights and culture.
