Carnival Sunshine

Sail Date: August 2013
Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean
Embarkation: Barcelona

Hi, this was our first cruise so nothing to compare to really but we did all rate this as our best holiday ever (previous holidays villas in Florida and all-inclusive in Turkey and Egypt)

Our rooms, 3 interior, were all lovely, cleaned twice daily. The beds very comfy. Only noise from some annoying females in next room. Soap, shower gel and shampoo provided. We didn't get towel for pool in our room, although kids did.

Over all the ship is fantastic, there are still problems sadly but none of them spoilt our holiday. Leaks with noticeably stained carpets and buckets, strange smells, lifts not working.

We enjoyed all the entertainment, The Playlist productions were particularly good. We spent three nights in the Piano bar which we all enjoyed but you need to get there early as space limited. The table magician in the main restaurant was very good.

Queues for guest services were very long and as live music was playing nearby it was difficult to hear More staff. On the last night we spent over 50 mins waiting to settle our account.

Booking excursions was very easy although expensive, we decided to book 'On Your Own' trips to Pisa, Rome and Pompeii for 6 it cost over $1000 ouch. The guide on the coach for the Rome trip was rubbish. We had been warned that queues for tickets at Pompeii were very long, not so. Also Carnival charge roughly $30 if you want a trip with tickets, this is a rip off, Pompeii tickets are 11 euros for adults, 5.50 euros for 18 - 25 yr olds and free for under 18, just make sure you take photo id to prove ages.

Carnival were charging 17 euros for shuttle buses off ports, in Marseilles we didn't bother, in Palma we went on local bus to city center for 1.5 euro each.

Embarkation was confusing and we ended up joining the wrong queue and only found out when we got halfway though the process of setting up the sail and sign cards. We then had to join another queue and when we got on board go to guest services and join another queue to sort it all out...frustrating.

The food was great, there was something to please everyone and we loved trying the 'Didya'.

Our 15 year old was too shy to join the kids club and too young to join the over 18's. So we didn't bother with most of these as a family.

Overall we had a fantastic holiday and will definitely cruise again.
