Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
There were seven of us, five on our first cruise, two previously cruised Alaska. 5 Canadians (ages 65. 64. 33, 33 and 3), one Canadian Italian and one Italian (both mid 30's) We had side by side balcony rooms on deck 10 and an ocean view room on deck 7 just below. It was nice that our balconies were able to be opened to allow them to connect to one another.
As it was our first cruise we do not have much cruising experience to compare with but have been to several quality all inclusives in the Caribbean. We are easy going travelers that booked this cruise because of our ability to embark in Naples.
Embarkation was very easy and we were on the boat in our rooms by 2pm. My prebooked coffee and beer packages (which I failed to bring conformation)were not on my account and the front desk was of zero help (borderline rude - would not be tolerated by a North American company).
The buffet's had good food but there were never enough seats and the lines were crazy More with Europeans running all over the place. After the second day we found out the MDR had a la carte breakfast and lunch, they were both very good and much more relaxed. We used room service every morning for coffee, cereal and muffins. Always on time and as we ordered.
Dinner service and food was exceptional. There was good variety and the quality of food was always good. The pastas were the best and overall the fish was the worst. It was either tasteless or overcooked. My favorite meal was a four cheese risotto.
The shows were entertaining, and done very well to accommodate the many languages on board. There was a special kids shows one day at 5pm which was also very entertaining for both children and adults.
The ship was very large, very clean but easy to get around. Our room was next to the main set of elevators and a second single elevator.
The etiquette of many of the other cruisers was definitely a first for us. They were pushy, non apologetic and always worried about themselves first.
We would definitely cruise again and wouldn't hesitate to use MSC again either. We went to Europe for a European experience and MSC added to that.
The night of our first formal night there was a captains cocktail hour in the main lobby.
The kids club was just ok for our daughter who only speaks English. The staff spoke English but mostly catered to the 95% of other guests that didn't. Our daughter enjoyed going to make their own pizzas. Less

Great spot as it is close to an elevator that is never too busy. Easy walk to the back of the ship to use quitter elevators to go to buffet
Port and Shore Excursions
Took hop on hop off bus. First stop was a 5 euro cab ride from port. Make sure you get on the correct bus for which loop you want to go on. Used the red buses. Sagrada Familia is a must, as is the Las Ramblas.
Booked aquarium and kids center. The kids center is a must for any small children. Has air conditioning and children could play there all day.
Took free Marseille shuttleinto town and walked to the main shopping area. Took little train up to Notre Dame. Great views of city.
Took a private cab to Taromina from Messina. Great Views, shops and cafes. Went to Greek Theatre. Had wine and ate across from the church and Orion Fountain on small street.
Took a private cab to Medina, Sidi Bou Said and carthage. Round trip was 40 Euros. He haggled and started his price at 80. Just walk out the port station, all the regular cabs are waiting for you. Medina markets were definately the highlight here. Not much to see other than buildings and shops in the sidi bou said.
Nice ship, but too crowded
