I was a little anxious about our shore excursions, interestingly named "Jungle Beach Break", as one our fellow cruisers called Costa Maya "a dump". After we got to the destination, the Uvero Beach Club, we decided to make the best of it. They played loud, ridiculous music that suits a more party oriented crowd than us (we're honeymooners) that would thump painfully even far out at sea. The first 20 yards of the beach water was filled with trash and plastic, and we even observed a floating toothbrush. What saves this from getting a 1 rating is the free included drinks. I suspect the drinks are meant to keep you from getting too observant.
We were told the ruins would be great, and they were nice enough. Maybe we had higher expectations of the site itself. The tour guide was informative and good, though ended the tour short and abruptly to our surprise without any lead up to it. What soured this experience first of all is when they cattled us through a photo session obviously meant to sell to families with children. As an two males on a honeymoon couple they basically stopped talking and smile (!) when they lined us up for a picture. Way to set the mood! Also, the driver promptly came up to each party and told us all to tip generously. As you probably can guess, we did *not* buy their ridiculous attempt to sell us a photo, and we tipped accordingly.
The first and tendered port Grand Cayman gave us a smooth start for our Port Adventures with DCL. The trip with Don Foster (DFD?) out to Stingray City was great, and well organized and informed. The only drawback is perhaps how the company seemed to utterly ignore us as apparently an adult all male couple is uninteresting money wise. They are so wrong, and thus made no tips. But a great experience nonetheless!
