Fantastic = Westerdam

Sail Date: May 2013
Destination: Alaska
Embarkation: Seattle

From the moment we stepped on board until we departed, we knew we had made a great choice, I think attitude has a lot to do with ones experience. We had great attitudes.

Our room was ready when we boarded. We booked a balcony suite and loved it. Our cabin stewards greeted us by name and continued to be very attentive all week. I mentioned that I liked ice available all the time and we always had fresh ice in our bucket. We enjoyed the towel animals and the treats and information left on our bed nightly. Even in the hallways there was a friendly greeting from staff.

The food was delicious especially considering the number of meals served each day. We had room service, we ate in the MDR, Lido, on deck Bar-b-que and the Pinnacle Grill. The service was great and in the MDR and the Pinnacle servers always addressed us by name. The Pinnacle was outstanding and well worth the up charge.

We loved, loved, loved our balcony - especially while we were in Glacier Bay. More The views are beautiful. The first morning, I woke about 4:30 a m and peeked out - the view was incredible. We spent a lot of time at sea on the balcony.

We spent time in the crows nest and enjoyed drinks there each afternoon while watching the most amazing wrap around view.

We went ashore at each port and booked excursions at two of the ports, Juneau and Ketchikan.

We would have enjoyed more time in both of these ports. We enjoyed Sitka as well but thought the tendering process a bit unorganized. Our call in Victoria was brief because a large ship 'beat ' us into port and we had to wait for them to clear before we were allowed off the ship. This was not a big deal for us as we had not booked anything in Victoria.

The only bad thing for us was leaving the ship. Not the process- which was hassle free- just the fact that it was all over. We have already booked a November cruise on HAL.

I can't say enough nice things about HAL and Westerdam. Great staff- right size ship for us - good food. Less

Cabin review: Westerdam Superior Verandah Suite Navigation 8086

8086 on Westerdam was a great cabin. Loved the balcony. Had great storage. Quiet. Would pick this cabin again.

Port and Shore Excursions

Whale Watching

(3)

Good tour - we got to see a bit of Juneau. We did see whales - not up close.

We ate GREAT crab legs at Tracy's. Highly recommend. The place doesn't look like much - just picnic tables under tents - but it is great!

Bering Sea Crab Fisherman's Tour

(5.5)

This was A M A Z I N G! Everybody should do this tour. We saw crab- got to hold them. Sunflower starfish. Beautiful Octopus! Whales - up close! And EAGLES, 25 to 30 bald eagles swooping out of the trees to eat fish that they had chummed in the water. The crew was wonderful. Best tour ever. We enjoyed it so much we would do it again in a heartbeat.

We did not book an excursion. We just walked around the scenic little town and enjoyed shopping.

Round two of King Crab legs. This time at Victoria's. Delicious!
