Our vacation started with very heavy traffic on the Embarcadero trying to get to the Cruise Pier. We ended up having our daughter make a left turn on a street directly across from the Pier, we hopped out- walked across the street with our luggage, gave it to a porter and went inside the terminal. With in minutes we filled out the Health Form, directed to a line, checked in, got our room cards, got in another line to board the ship. It took us 30 minutes from crubside to our room!! As we opened the door to our room, our steward- Noli- greeted us by name (and remembered our names through out the whole cruise)Our luggage arrive in a very short time. The room was very clean (inside rooms are on the small side, but you are not in there that much). Noli kept our room and bathroom very clean. The bed was very comfortable, the pillows were hard.
All of the Princess crew members were extremely friendly, every time we passed someone they asked if we needed help, how our day was, etc- always with a smile!
We had 5:30 dining (at first we thought this would be to early, but it worked out fine) We were at table 173, our waiters were excellent, friendly, if someone at the table did not like something- it was replaced immediately! The food overall was good. There was a nice selection each night, Everything we tried was good, lots of flavor, some had large portions, all desserts were excellent. We ate all our Breakfasts and some lunches at the Horizon Buffet. There was a large selection of food from- many types of eggs, sauges, pancakes, waffels, oatmeal, pastries, breads, soup, sandwich bar, other items (if you cant find something to eat you must be very picky) Everything was served hot and good. There are napkins and silverware on each table, the waiters in the buffet come around and serve you coffee, juice- we never had to wait long to get served.
The onboard lectures were great! We went to several, the digital camera classes were very good, the Naturalist was great, the ins and outs of the Bridge, Engine room, Stage and Shows were all very interesting.
We also went to Glacier Bay- Which was fantastic! Such a beautiful place, we had great weather too.
We enjoyed all the stage shows. Personally we did not care for the comedian- we don't care for off color jokes. There are lots of lounge areas to sit, relax, have coffee, fresh baked cookies (all day long) or other snack.
We met many nice people on the ship, our dinner companions were very nice too. There were lots of children on the ship (over 300) you hardly knew there were that many!
Disembarkation was fast and easy. We waited in our assigned area for about 15 minutes, then we were called to go off, we found our luggage right away, walked out to the taxi cab area, got in a cab and drove to the Cal Train Station. We took the train home. (much cheaper than having a limo or towne car)
We will be sailing with Princess again- We have found all our cruises with Princes to be really nice, very nice staff and crew, the whole ship is always clean, the food is good. We have never had a bad experience on a Princess ship.
My husband did the float plane to an island to look for bears. The whole trip was not very well planned, the other guests on the tour were very loud the whole time (if there was bear in the area, it would have left from all the noise) One of the guests could not walk, kept falling, out of breath. The tour guides took us to several places-we only stayed at each place a few minutes, not long enough to have a chance to see any bears. One of the guides was a 17 year old high school student- much to young to be leading this type of tour. Neither of the guides told us to talk quietly, walk quietly, etc. The only good part was the airplane flight. For $430- this was a complete waste of money!!!!! I would give this tour a negative number.
this tour was really good- We saw lots of whales, two were breeching for over 30 minutes, it was great. The salmon dinner at the lodge was really good. We only had 15 minutes at the Mendenhal Glacier (which was fine with me, Ive beent here before)
(We arrived late to Juneau, then all 3000 people were trying to get off the ship at the same time, which made all of us an hour late to our tours-reason for short time at glacier)
We took a coastal wildlife tour- It was really fun! There was a small group of us, about 16. The boat owner took us way out of Ketchecan, down some beautiful water ways. We saw an eagle nesting area- lots and lots of eagles, we saw several seals, other birds. Unfortunately we did not see any bears, but it was not without a lot of effort from the boat owner. He provided all us with binoculars too, made many stops so we could go out on the front of the boat for pictures. We would recommend this tour to others.
We both did this tour. Our tour bus driver was friendly and knowledable. The train was fun! It was an all day ride, stopping at Bennet Lake for lunch. Its a beautiful ride, Bennett Lake is very pretty, our tour guide was great! It was a very fun day. We would do this again sometime, and highly recommend it to others.
We did not take any tours in Victoria, we like walking around on our own. Its a pretty city, but by the time we get to Victoria we are tired of tours. (we would rather take the ones in Alaska)
