Ship Facts: Celebrity Summit Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Celebrity Summit Deck Plans
Another Memorable Vacation

My Husband and I sailed on the Celebity Summit for the third time. We had sailed to the Caribbean once on this ship from Puerto Rico and once from Bayonne to Bermuda.

Since we live in NY, leaving from Bayonne was a breeze. We arrived at the terminal about 10:30 AM. Unloaded our luggage curbside, they proceeded to a close parking lot. We then entered the terminal and were ushered to the suite waiting area. We sat in this area and were offered refreshments. We had our typical boarding picture taken after a very brief registration. A representative from the specialty dining rooms was present and we made our reservations. As a suite guest you get one free dinner the first evening in either the Normandy or Qsine. We also purchased a package that was for five dinners in the speciality restaurants. One evening we dined at the captains table and the other was the "free" dinner. We truly enjoy dining in the specialty restaurants. While the Summit only has two, the newer ships have four speciality restaurants. We dined in Qsine twice and Normandy 4 times. Since each has so much variety, we never got bored on the wonderful selections.

Back to boarding: At about 11:30, we boarded a shuttle bus from the terminal onto the ship. It is a short distance, but you are required to take a shuttle to the ship. We then boardered the ship and were offered a welcome (free) drink. Mimosa, champagne or wine. We also enjoy having lunch at Bistro on Five boarding day. The food is excellent and well worth the $5.00 pp charge. We also had some lunch at the grill. The hot dogs and fries were very good. For breakfast, we dined in the Ocean view cafe or the main restaurant. The food was good. We had breakfast on day on our balcony which was also good-

Back to Boarding Day: After lunch we proceeded to our cabin. It was a Sky Suite. While not a true suite- It was a really large nice sized cabin with plenty of storage and a walk in closet. The bathroom was also really much nicer then a balcony cabin. We had a bathtub. My Husband who is over 6 feet was able to take a bath in the tub. Not like our oversided whirlpool bath at home, but fine. Our Bulter, Felipe was very efficent and really tried to please.

The ship is in pretty good shape. My negative comments are the pool areas. The cushions need to be replaced in both the adult and regular pool. The muster station drill is really not effective. We were in a crowded lounge on the ship and since it was standing room only, couldn't see the presentation. It was however available on the celebrity TV channel. Another negative is the pool butlers were not effective. Only one would enforce the no children allowed in the adult pool area- some of the other pool butlers wouldn't say anything, but pretend to be busy drying the floor area.

The entertainment was very good. We enjoyed the piano player Jason who was around cafe Bacci as well as in other venues on the ship. He was great. The Acapella singers were also enjoyable. The production shows had a wonderful team of talented singers and dancers. The ship has a great orchestra- Other venues around the ship also had great entertainment- of course the usual karaoke- with the not so talented- but guest having fun.

The ship had a comedian- Ms. Balan- who was on the last comic standing. She was great! Wish they had a comedy show at least three nights a week. The Martini bar staff prepared the best drinks on the ship. We enjoyed the Elite Lounge and interaction with Tiann the hostess.

I had my hair washed and styled at the salon, and Sandra the hairstylist was wonderful. Talented and patient. They had a problem with staffing the hair salon and fortunately I reserved my appointment just after boarding and got a prime time appointment for formal nights- We also took many pictures and the package that includes unlimited photos for a flat fee on disc or hardcopies (or both) is a great bargain!

Most people dressed up on formal nights-suits, jackets and tux's for men, and formal attire for the ladies.

We really enjoyed the cruise. The service in all areas was perfect. Not to have to worry about catching a flight, bad weather delays or luggage weight was great. Booked this cruise again for next August. We will fly to Florida this January and sail on the Silhouette which is a twin of the Reflection.
