The cruise was advertised by HAL as a Norwegian Fjord cruise with highlights visiting the Songefjord (Flam) and Eidfjord. On the boat we learned from the captain that regrettably due to the construction of a bridge the Eidfjord could not be visited, instead the boat would stop at Haugesund.
It is quite surprising and does not speak for a great competence of HAL destination search team, that apparently they did not know months in advance of the construction of a bride. Usually bridges are not built overnight!
In fact, this cruise was a great disappointment, did we only see one major but very spectacular fjord, the Songefjord with stop at Flam. Haugesund, the alternative routing, was boring and no match at all.
A further disappointment was the embarkation procedures. We did sign up for Internet check-in. However at the embarkation we were mixed with all the other people not having on-line check-in completed and had to wait in line for over an hour. Question: what fore is on-line check-in if you cannot benefit from expedited embarkation procedures and shorter lines? HAL could learn a lot from Celebrity!
The Eurodam is a very large ship with 2,100 passengers. It is felt very much so at the Lido restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Very long waiting lines for food and tables. The air-conditioning on the ship was an other problem; way too cold and drafty, you could only adjust room temperature in your cabin.
The entertainment was rather lame; we have seen on many other cruises much better entertainment in terms of variety and quality.
On the positive side, great and very friendly crew. Nice cabins! The captain was a Dutchman, which made us feel very safe not to have an Italian captain!!
Overall we would not choose Holland America Line again.
Nice place worthwhile visiting, regrettably it was raining heavily, nevertheless we visited the picturesque town and the Floyen mountain.
Great scenery, the Flam railway is worth an excursion. The boat excursions were way too expensive, we did the trip on our own.
