Fantastic experience for our 1st cruise

Sail Date: July 2013
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Embarkation: Venice

After a bit of confusion trying to locate where to drop off our bags, we headed to the check in area. We got in the queue at 1230 and boarded the ship around 1430. Our bags arrived shortly after we got to our room.

We were in a balcony room towards the front of the ship. We were surprised at how spacious the room felt, we had ample storage including room under the bed to store our suitcases.

The bathroom was a good size, we always had plenty of hot water and the shower pressure was excellent. Eric our cabin attendant was very attentive and ensured we were always stocked up with shampoo etc.

We choose select dining and never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a table. The food in the main dining room was to a high standard with plenty of variety. My Husband chose to eat steak most nights and it was always cooked to his liking. The only criticism was the food wasn't always as hot as we would have liked. We decided to try Qusine on our last night and really More felt it wasn't worth the extra cost. The tapas like dishes were tasteless and the service average.

We were fortunate to have booked when the classic drinks package was part of the offer. This was especially beneficial as we didn't have a big bill at the end of the trip.

We were disappointed at the number of teenagers and small children on this cruise, due to school summer holidays throughout Europe. It was virtually impossible to get in the outdoor pool, which often looked cloudy! And we had 3 young men next door that were loud until early hours of the morning. If you want a relaxing holiday without lots of noise and children, pick a different month than July/August.

We enjoyed all of the ports we visited, however Ravenna had nothing much to see or do, so after an hour we returned to sit by the pool.

Cruising into Kotor was spectacular, it was like a pond the water was so still and the scenery was breathtaking.

We loved the Martini bar and were entertained by Mercedes, Peter Adi and Gusto, all excellent barmen with amazing martini making skills.

Cruise Director Alejandro and his team were great, I loved the upbeat Latin dance class by the pool. All the staff we came into contact with were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much of an effort for them.

We met several couples that said once you have cruised with Celebrity you will never go with any other cruise line. They had, but always returned to Celebrity. As this is our first cruise we have nothing to compare it with, however it would have to be exceptional to be any better that what we experienced Less

Cabin review: Celebrity Silhouette Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Veranda Continental Deck (6) 7125

Great balcony always sunny, great views when sailing into port.

Port and Shore Excursions

We walked around the old town and took the cable car to the top of the summit. The views were incredible.

We hopped on a Water Taxi around the bay. Cost 180 euros for 4 people for 2.5 hours. He took us to the blue grotto cave where we swam in crystal clear water, quite cool and refreshing though!

We took a private excursion which was much cheaper than the ships. We drove along the Amalfi coast, stopped in a lovely restaurant overlooking breathtaking views. We stopped at Pompei on the way back which was amazing. The only issue with a private tour, is being sure you are back at the Ship in plenty of time.

Getting from Piazza di Roma to the cruise terminal involves getting onto a people mover. Ensure you have small change (euro) for the ticket machine and its quite a hike to the cruise terminal. Not easy with cases & hand luggage, especially when its really hot!
