We started in Copenhagen and took the 1/2 day tour of the city with the ship. It was a very informative trip and we would strongly recommend it for others as it really narrows the amount of time required to see the highlights of the city before your first day departure.
We noticed the ship was very efficient with check-in. We dropped our bags dockside, had our name found on a list, we were escorted to the main desk, took care of business, booked our restaurant reservations and then took the city tour. We rejoined the ship just before sailing and participated in the mandatory safety drill, which was most unpleasant as the crew kept pushing us tighter and tighter together in an area that did not support the number of people at that muster station.
The poolside service from the bar and the cafe were impeccable. We were so happy to see some of the crew from the Silver Cloud had transferred and we got to reacquaint with them. The cafe did serve a good hamburger.
The evening meal around the pool was by reservation only and it was using a method of cooking called hot rocks. Your steak comes out on a blistering hot lava rock for you to finish cooking to your desired doneness. It was wonderful and we strongly recommend it for all.
The room service for breakfast and dinner was used once, each, during the cruise and the food arrived exactly on time and as advertised. Our butler, Sunil, was the person who delivered it both times. He was one of the best servers on the ship.
We ate breakfast once in The Restaurant. It was very empty and the service was impeccable. We had the buffet breakfast multiple times at La Terrazza and the service really was lacking. The guests are not allowed to get much of their own items from the buffet and the servers were very inattentive. This was the most disappointing part of the trip.
We ate at Le Champange one night and had a delicious meal served with incredible attention and quality service. This is the small restaurant that carries a fee.
We ate at La Terrazza one night by reservation and it was spectacular Italian food. It was light and full of flavor. One of the best meals on board.
We ate at The Restaurant for dinner twice and both times the meals were excellent and the service impressive.
During our one day at sea, the ship had a galley buffet lunch where all the guests walked through the galley to see the buffet food for the day. Most of the dishes were self serve and the variety was most impressive.
We did self guided walking tours of Tallinn, Helsinki and Stockholm as those ports do not have many things of interest to offer the visitor. All of these towns were very easy to navigate using public transportation and local maps.
We chose this cruise because it provided three days in St. Petersburg. That was the best part of the trip. We were able to get a three day excursion from Alla tours who did a spectacular job for a very low price.
