Ship better than the crew

Sail Date: July 2013
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: New Orleans

First time traveling with our best friends on a cruise we took time to enjoy two days in New Orleans before hopping on the Elation down the mighty Mississippi.

The Elation is in wonderful shape for her age. No issues there whatsoever.

Our cabin steward Willy did a good job throughout the cruise, but he real wasn't that personable. There were two cabin maintenance issues which were quickly fixed.

Started off on the Lido for our first meal and naturally beat everyone to the punch as Platinum members. Parked myself in front of the Deli line and proceeded to wait there for about 13 minutes. The two guys running the deli, for lack of a better term, sucked. Possible the worse two Carnival employees I have ever seen. They really didn't care to even be there. Hopefully, they will be removed soon.

The Lido food was good and the lines were not bad, but the employees all looked whooped. No enthusiasm at all.

In the main dining room, the food, once More again, was fabulous. Very awkward with our head waiter as we really didn't know who it was until day #3. He warmed up by then, but that was a first time experience not knowing who our wait staff was.

Personal in the gift shops was fine and they had a decent selection of items.

We spent a lot of time in the casino and the staff there was excellent except for the casino host who was very impersonal and uninterested.

The Cruise Director, Steve Knisley did a excellent job throughout the cruise. One of his assistants who ran the comedy club and other functions was extremely weird, mad scientist types who was uncomfortable to even watch.

We managed to watch the opening show and it was well done. The dancers and singers, as usual, were great. We only got to one other show and whoever produced it should be shot! The name of the show was "WIN" and it was the worse production show I have ever seen in my life. We walked out, with others halfway through because we just couldn't take any more of it. I felt really bad for the dancers.

Overall, we always enjoy our cruises and this one was great too. The staff has issues, overall, and I don't know why but it need to be fixed. A first time cruise would have been turned off. Less

Cabin review: Carnival Elation Oceanview Main M39

M39 is Main deck ocean view. It was the smallest ocean view we have slept in but the ship is probably the smallest ship we have been on. No sofa, just a stool and in King configuration, someone has to crawl over the bed to get to their side. Average size bathroom with decent storage.

Port and Shore Excursions

We have been to Cozumel 8 times now and its a great port. Plenty of shopping, eating and watersports. The people there are pretty cool overall. We spent this trip at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville and enjoyed it tremendously. Great food, drinks and fun.

Chichen Itza

(3)

Chichen Itza is a wonderful, must see, for anyone. The grounds are beautiful and there are enough history lessons there to cover days. BUT, the whole experience kind of gets ruined by the hawking vendors that are allowed on sight. HUNDREDS of them. Every step you take, someone is trying to sell you something. They should not be allowed there. Its awful.
